Is it the WHUP WHUP WHUP sound?

I have no idea, but when you took the carpet cover off to change out the motor, was it any easier to determine where the noise was coming from?

Thanks for re-posting the video. Okay, so that answers my question. It is definitely not the amp since it is only occurring when the top transfer is in process.

It sort of sounds like there are missing threads on a screw that the motor has to move past until it finally gets to some good threads. But I have no idea where or which set that would be. I guess that it would be easier to narrow down by looking at the top diagram and determining what controller/motor should be in motion at that point in time. (i.e. look at what happens right after the whirring occurs to see what moves and then determine what motor controls that.) That will narrow down where the problem is occurring.

I was thinking about your button problem this weekend. Did it just start after you put in the new motor? I think the new motor might be bad and you should try putting in the old motor to see if the problem goes away.

I think I read someplace that the two motors have to be in synch before the top will open. Lexus uses some kind of pulse system to make sure they are in synch.

My guess is that the motors are out of synch and that by pressing the button multiple times, the motors move just a little with each press. Eventually they are in synch enough to open.

This is just a guess though.

I would try putting in your old motor and see if that changes things.

I changed the motor and the climate control top just makes noise and will not open
so I called my local Lexus dealership to have my car scanned for codes....
they informed me that that Lexus dealership do not work on cars over ten years old?????
So I don't know what to do now !!!!!
and to add insult to injury I replaced my climate control and now my gas gauge is stuck on full!!!!
i would pull my hair out but I'm going bald.

I would go to another lexus dealer or call corporate. The sc430 from 2002 through 2010 did not make enough changes that they should have no issue working on the car . The roofs I am reasonable sure are all the same.

I doubt calling corporate will do any good...besides I wouldn't want to take my car to a place that doesn't want to work on it anyway.

Find a good independent...you will be better off.

That's odd, my car is 15 years old and the local dealer works on it.

What part of Louisiana are you in? If you had the Toyota Car Software (aka techstream) you can see what the top is doing. Maybe another member in your area has it and can help you.

I do think the answer might be an good independent Lexus mechanic. They should have the software to read the top. Even a good Toyota mechanic should have the software.

.
I went in to my local Lexus dealer just to find out when my next service was due, and they told me it is due at 60k, and that it would cost over $1,100!

Called another local Lexus dealer (not as local... the 1st dealer is practically across the street from my house!), and they quoted me $660 for a 60k service! They told me the 60k service did not require replacing the spark plugs, where the 1st dealer said that it did include replacing spark plugs, so I called a 3rd (!) dealer, to see how much they'd charge, and if they included replacing the spark plugs on a 60k service or not. They quoted $780, and didn't replace SP's...

My point is, my car is a 2002 and all three Lexus dealers were more then happy to work on my car.

Call another Lexus dealer near you!

This is annoying, but I just ran into the same problem you have. I put my top down a couple of days ago. Now I can't get it to go back up. When I press the switch nothing lights up. No flashing or anything. This weekend I will break out the tools and see what I can find.
