Gen 4 Navigation
My SC is a 2004. I believe it has the Gen 2 navigation system in it if what I have read on this site is correct.
If I "upgrade" to Gen 4...
1. Does the hated "I agree" go away
2. Is this a simple "plug and play" upgrade? Take out the old player and put in the new one?
3. Any other benefits to updating other than being able to get a newer map?
Thanks for your info and help.

Most people upgrade to Gen4 because the Gen2/3 player fails. That's what happened with my 2004 SC430. So my decision to upgrade was easy.
Here are some answers :
1. Yes, the "I Agree" screen will be present. The hacks to get it bypassed only worked with the earlier map versions and at some revision point, the hack no longer worked. If you plan on getting the latest version map, expect the "I Agree" screen to be present.
2. Yes, simple plug and play upgrade. You will however have to take the trunk slightly apart to get to the DVD player. Not hard, but time consuming. I was actually sitting in the deep well area to do the swap.
3. Aside from more current maps, the visual display and user interface is improved. I never had the opportunity to play around with Gen2/3 as it was pretty much in-op when I bought the car but other posts from owners with more Gen2/3 experience mentioned the improvement.

GmanSC...I do not know how to tell what Gen you have, but I'm confident that someone on this forum would know...or your local dealer could tell you. I have an '04 SC with the original Nav system in it so I was pretty sure I did not have the latest version. Seems to me that I have read somewhere on this forum that members were replacing their Nav's with Gen 4 systems from '06 Toyotas they bought off of ebay. If the '06 Toyotas had Gen 4 then it would seem likely that your '07 SC already has that.

One of the side benefits of the VAIS iPod unit is that it disables the "I Agree." For me, that's worth the price right there!
