Default Do your side mirrors automatically retract?

This seems like a silly question, but I have been doing a TON of reading lately from the techinfo site and there are multiple references to the mirrors retracting when the car is put in park. These were found while focusing on the 2003 model year, but some of the documents might just be generic.

Mine definitely do not retract automatically (and I don't see anything in the overall wiring diagram either). Are they supposed to?

I have a 2007 and mine do not retract. I don't remember my old 2002 retracting either.

Thank you. I figured as much. It must have been an option of some sort.

Just so nobody thinks I am crazy, I am attaching the troubleshooting flowchart from the 2003 SC430 manual regarding the retracting mirrors.

According to this, the mirrors should retract when the doors are locked and return when the doors are unlocked.

The Japanese SC430s mirrors folded in. There was a special button on the mirror adjustment/mirror washer button switch. If you look closely at the switch, you will still see the place for the cut out on the front. Would love to add backward compatibility to add this feature. I researched it a while ago, and didn't come up with any promising leads at that time.

I'm pretty sure that none of the US SC430 vehicles have retracting mirrors (unless the last model year did). The LS model does but not the SC430. It would definitely be nice though. I believe that Shawn is right that some of the non-US models may have it though.

Ha. I actually added the switch in that location while I was in there changing out the LED for the security light. The wires are missing from the harness of course.

The LS430 mirrors actually look nice. They have a built in puddle light as well. I wonder if they could be installed on the SC430. Quite pricey for them, though.

Different size and mounting pattern. I tried that option before taking on the DIY mirror puddle lights and door handle turn signals I added. Guess were stuck, unless someone steps up to buy a pair of Japenese mirrors, runs new motor wires through the cabin, and creates or buys the Japenese mirror adjustment/washer/folding switch. Not it.

I would guess that the program in the ECUs also wouldn't support the feature anyway. At least not for the auto-retract function where they fold when the doors lock. That has to come from the firmware in the various ECUs to do that.

We have the folding mirrors in Europe because of our narrow roads, but mine only retract and extend when you operate the button. Maybe able to change the C-best settings to make them fold on locking the doors.

Cheers

Hi Shawn

I did the rear quarter window mod and that is the switch I use to operate them.

I have since added another switch to so that I can lower either both or just the drivers side rear quarter.

Cheers

You have all sorts of stuff going on there on the back bumper. In the other thread I asked about the lenses higher up, but now I also see what looks like back up sensors?

Yes Scott, UK cars had rear parking sensors as standard, but as I said I would much rather have a clean bumper like you guys.
I have answered your post about the Cree bulbs.

Cheers
