I believe if you go to the switch that you adjust your outside mirrors and leave it in the position to adjust the right side mirror, they will tilt down for you.

Could be wrong, but I thought whatever position the outside mirror selector switch is in (L or R) controls which outside mirror moves when you put it in reverse. Maybe your switch is in the middle?

Left or Right = both mirrors point downward.
Middle = mirrors will not tilt.

I think it has to be switched to the left mirror for both mirrors to tilt down in reverse. However, I think the tilt-down mirror in reverse going bad is one of the few problems the SC430 has had. Over the years I've seen this problem mentioned more than a few times. I myself had to have my left mirror replaced under warranty after about a year. Thank god, because I think it would have cost me about $500. I'm also experiencing the problem again now. Try putting your car in reverse. If the mirror doesn't tilt down then tilt it all the way down manually with the mirror switch. This seems to "fix" the problem at least for a while. Maybe the gears get stuck and have to be manually adjusted to unstick?

Interesting. I have an early 2002 model, and both mirrors tilt on left or right. Might be later models were more selective.

As you say, there have been a number of reports of tilting-mirror failure on earlier models as they begin to age. I've started to leave the switch in the center position and use the tilting feature only if needed.

FYI, Pearlpower has a DIY on replacing the mirror motors, but the pictures in his thread have disappeared.

Just tested my 2008 and both mirrors tilt left or right position, however the drivers side mirror I had to adjust down manually to get it working. Now they both work fine!
