Default Interior lights

Anyone knows if there're LEDs replacement for tthe interior lightings for the SC?. It would be cool if we could have bright white light for the interior rather than that dim yellow. The newer Lexus models all have them.

Yes. All the lights are standard bulbs, but different types. LED replacements exist for all types.

I have seen "kits" on eBay that supposedly have all the various types and quantities needed, but I am not sure I would trust them to get it right.

I will tell you that for the map light, all of the replacement guides I have seen get the bulb type wrong. They are BAS-9 (bayonet type.) https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/ba9s-ba7s/

I replaced my map lamps with a 13 bright white LED panel, though.

Which lights are you wanting to replace? If you know the lamp type you need, the site above is a good source for finding LED replacements.

I don't want to say this is true for all years, but up until at least 2005, Lexus doesn't use CAN bus at all.

There is a similar bus called BEAN used for some things in the SC430, but no, the LEDs don't create any errors. The lighting in the SC430 has no intelligence, just power.

The headlights/brake lights could be a different story. I have most of the interior lights in my 2003 replaced already with LEDs and no errors.

Thanks retro. I think I'll look into some led's then. I didn't think about doing it before because I thought it might be like on BMW. Either pay a ton for error free leds, or struggle with errors. Glad to hear not so on this.

I also replaced my map lights with LEDs with no resultant errors. Those are lights that the car would really not care about if they failed. I suspect that they only monitor safety related lights.

Regarding the map lights, the BA9s are reverse polarity. So most LEDs that you can buy will not work there but there is a vendor out there that will sell you reverse polarity BA9 LEDs, you just have to search for him. (That's what I did several years ago.) Good luck.

On my BMW it will show a light out symbol on the dash for some of the interior lights. Just like some of the exterior ones. the main dome light I know does. You have to buy a led with a resistor in it.

Oh yes. I completely forgot about that. Rewired my map light to switch the polarity.

In the end, I installed these 12 LED panels which come with a pigtail connector so you can swap polarity and the various connectors:

That one is red, but I went with white.

Just FYI, I do have a second map light I picked up that I have been modding. One of the mods is to install an RGB light in the map lights which will allow me to individual dim them and change the color for day/night use. You can see a video demonstration here:

(warning: lots of bright flashing lights)

i know i added to a thread with all my interior lights swapped to LED and also each bulb type needed. I found this on my other forum... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...d-converstion/, Check out iJDMtoy.com for some great bulbs. I have used them for all my applications and never had a single problem. As stated above, interior lights upgrade to LED will not throw a dash error light.

This topic probably could use a sticky since most of the cross references I have seen have been inaccurate as to bulb types. And of course, the important mentions about polarity. So far, the only one I have encountered is the map light, but I haven't converted every light yet.

Wanted to add this thread here. It covers a lot of the interior light mods and gives bulb types.

I seriously love all the LED upgrades. I really feel that it brings the SC430 into a "more" modern era with cleaner, brighter interior lights.
