Default Cleaning question

OK I give up. How do you clean the rear window on an SC430? I have tried everything with no good results. My hands are not small enough to get down behind those ridiculous rear seat head rests. Please help I'm kind of **** about clean windows.

You have to drop the top to about halfway. There's a "tipping" point where the roof will support itself. Takes some practice to learn that point. Too early or too late and the roof will "creep," so tap the button in the opposite direction and you will find the point. Then you can clean the window a little easier. Just don't put too much pressure on the glass to cause the top to fold down.

+1 to Shawn's solution. It was the only way I was able to do it. Amazing how the car wash people won't clean it either.

With the quarter window relay setup it's a breeze. I just drop the top and raise the rear windows.

I do something similar to Shawn. My secret has been to use microfiber towels and no chemicals - No streaks and no haze to worry about.

Can the back seat head rests be removed when the top is down? That would make cleaning the rear window a snap if you raise the top with the head rests off the back seat.

You can remove the back seat headrests, but then there will be a metal "rollbar," that will show. Looks tacky without the actual headrests.

Shawn,
After cleaning the back window I'll replace the hea rests. Is the rollbar in the way for cleaning the window?

You have to drop the top to be able to access the back of the headrests to remove them, so it's sort of irrelevant unless you just want to keep them off for future cleaning. If you keep them off, then you could clean the window easier but the rollbar inside the headrest would be visible all the time.

UPDATE: Check out post #3 (the bottom half of the photo), and you'll see what I mean by the rollbars. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...-question.html

Just do the "top down half-way" trick to clean the back window - use the top switch until the back window is exactly vertical and let go of the button...it will stay there without a problem.

I just had my "new to me" 2008 SC430's windows tinted (mandatory here in Florida - that rear window is like a solar collector) and this worked perfectly when they had to clean and apply the tint to the rear glass. If you stop it at the half-way point (which is when the rear window is vertical), you don't have to worry about it drifting down as you clean it.... works well.

You can also buy a cleaning pad that is mounted on the end of a stick with a swivel joint. They work fairly well. I've seen them at Walgreens and Target. I'm sure that they are pretty well everywhere else too. Cost me about $10. No top opening required. It was discussed in this thread.

SC40O,
Did not ignore you. Purchased my pad on a stick today during our weekly grocery shopping trip. Will try it out later today.
