Default SC430 mirror issue

Hey Guys!

Since I bought my 2003 Lexus SC430, I had an issue with the mirrors. There was of a CLACK noise from the mirrors, when I'd put the reverse-gear in.

What can I do to fix it?

Thanks!

I recently did extensive work on my mirror and I believe that you're hearing the CLACK b'c in reverse the mirror angles downward to allow you to see parking lines to help with parking and/or see the path behind the car. Basically this CLACK occurs when the mirror descends to the full angle and prevents damage to the mirror and motors. If you try to use the mirror control and manually angle it down, it should do the same when it reaches the same point. If the mirror doesn't angle downward at all using the manual control, then it could be a motor problem. Test it out and update us and we can try to diagnose the problem.

PS. If your saved mirror setting is maxed downward then when you kick into reverse, of course the motor can't angle downward any more and you'll get the clicks.

If you don't want the mirrors to direct downward when in reverse make sure that the mirror selector is in the neutral (middle) position which will keep your mirrors in the pre-set positions.

That's true, tdedden! I totally forgot about that! That would stop the clicking, too! Simplest fix. Gold Star for you!

UPDATE:

Thanks for the fast help!

But I realized, that my mirrors don't move up or down, if I push the button!
Is it better to buy new engines/mirrors?

Please help!

They should only rotate down when in reverse and the mirror selector switch is pushed either to the left or right mirror. If you leave the switch in the middle then they should stay in their pre-set positions.

Ok so things might be a little confusing at this point. I got lost, myself.
Step 1. Try to move the mirrors normally from the driver's side mirror control panel. Do they work? Max them to the up, down, left, right so you can tell how far they actually travel before hearing the clicks (which is normal to prevent damage).
Step 2. Set the mirrors where you are comfortable when driving.
Step 3. Put the mirror selector on Left.
Step 4. Put the car in reverse. Any clicks?
.
If the clicks only occur when you shift into reverse, you have three options.
1. Fix the problem. (You will have to do more troubleshooting steps).
2. Readjust the mirror higher up so it won't travel as far downward when shifting into reverse.
3. Ignore the problem and just leave the mirror selector in the middle, to avoid the mirror angling downward on reverse thus no more clicks.
