So after almost a year and a half of owning my SC 430, I have finally decided to change my rims. Better late then never, I guess. Anyway, I know there are several threads and pics about aftermarket rims but I wanted the input of anyone who has replaced their SC rims in one place. At this point, I don't want to get rims which are over 18" only because I don't feel like replacing all my tires at this point. I went to my dealer and was quoted $2k for chromed TRD wheels. Is that a fair price? Still, I'm not crazy about this rims. Is it a good idea to buy rims online? What is a good site? How much should I expect to pay for good rims? What are some good rim brands and styles? I generally don't like anything too too jazzy or ornate. Is there a warranty violation if I change to non-Lexus rims or if anyone other than a Lexus dealer installs them? Finally, does anyone know of any good rim shops in either NJ, NYC or Brooklyn? Thanks to everyone who responds. All tips are appreciated. Darn mod bugs!

I wish I had a pic of them, but I dont. The dealer I go to in NJ has been putting 18" BBS rims on many of their cars. They are clean and not too crazy. Try calling Prestige Lexus, in Ramsey, NJ. As for rim shops there are many on route 46 in NJ if you are familiar with them. Action tire of Lodi, NJ has many and decent prices. I know a lot of the athletes get their rims from there. Im sorry I dont have phone numbers, but I will give you one 411.....lol Anything else, lemme know.
I'll say it again. I put on after market chromes (Enkei sublimes) and while beautiful, I had nothing but problems with my ride with the run-flats. I had to change them in for the chrome TRD's which I really like. They've grown on me (at first too ornate) and I've had no problem with them or the ride at all. They are MADE for the Lexus and are hub-centric and less likely to give a giggly ride than other after-markets. I was happy to get rid of the "garbage can lids" that came with the car and am very happy with the "look".
As for price, I was quoted $2.3 to 2.5K for the TRG's. If you can live with them, go for it.
Thanks you all for your interesting suggestions. I am going to check out that shop in Lodi as well as Prestige Lexus. I'm still considering the TRDs but those L-Sportline Model IV's seem really appealing. Gene, how much do those retail for and where is a good place to get them online? I'm seeing varying prices for them on the web. Thanks!
I am just not a big fan of chrome. I said it before and I will say it again. the most appealing rims are pushed backed 2 or 3 piece ones with a chrome like lip (adonized aluminum). I know Fast and the Furious and car shows and all that stuff is sort of poser. But most of these people know whats in now. They are the current trend.
After 3 weeks, 2 of the rims are warped BAD, and a third is mildly warped. I think they are not properly load rated for a car of this weight AND with run flats. Tire Rack is not wanting to help, so I am probably going to have to stock the cc payment.

Anyway, we are thinking about BBS.

Funny you should mention that. I had the exact same experience with my Millie Miglias. 2 rims bent in a short period of time from one lousy pothole. I now have SSR's on my car and so far so good.
Friends shouldnt let friends buy cheap ghetto rims!!! If you are going to use the stock tires, you should get a strong rim. Pretty obvious, but brands like Niche and etc, make cheap rims and you get cheap products. I have DAAZ Racing Harts. There were and Im sure still are a million rip offs. I remember the guy asked me if I was sure I wanted to spend the money on the Racing Harts, then he realized what car I had and quickly stopped asking.
Also 3 piece wheels are the strongest. Chrome tends to get destroyed.....as does that polished aliminum lips. Mine have take some abuse and I take pretty good care of them....never go to a car wash.
yeah, if you go car wash, go for handwash only.
I got a killer deal with $15 CND per wash (exterior and interior)
but of course I paid 300 up front every time for deposits.
xeet, i love your taste ..
polish lips..for sure..chromes..yes, but not 20's for me..just too much chrome..
I think 18 or at most 19 are perfect for me. With top quality Japanese rim to represent the JDM style.
Yeah, actually with a polished lip you will have a least a piece of mind that you can fix minor (or sometimes more than minor) curb/pothole rashes yourself! Get some super fine grit wet sand paper and a buffer and you'll never know it's there! That's why I am never going to go chrome.
19" rims with good tires, actually ride softer and smoother than the runflats. Don't be afraid to go a little bigger! (Plus, it gives you a reason to put coilovers on your car. )
Drew.
