Default 2005 Bluetooth question

Just took delivery of my 2005 SC430 (Egyptian Sand, white leather, 55k miles. Lovely vehicle.) which I thought came with Bluetooth.

However, when looking to pair my iPhone 4S the 'Phone' icon is not present on the ML Nav Info display screen, suggesting that maybe Bluetooth is missing? I confirmed it's a 2005 from the VIN.

When I depress the little button below and behind the steering wheel volume buttons (left side - this is a US car) I get a voice saying 'No cassette inserted' or words to that effect, suggesting it's a cassette control button, not a Bluetooth one. The Nav instruction book which came with the car specifically refers to the presence of Bluetooth.

Can anyone advise how to find if I have Bluetooth or not? My iPhone cannot 'discover' anything.

I just purchased a 2005 last month. You going to love it. Yes, it does have Bluetooth. I think the path was Info - Phone settings - then a down button to scroll to get to Bluetooth. Add phone, then enter the pass code in the phone and it should connect. Great for hands free talking. Not so great for loading contacts. I was not able to find any way to export contacts from an iPhone via Bluetooth. Wound up entering them in an old LG phone to connect from there.

The I phone will connect with the 2005 sc 430. You will not be able to upload from I phone. You will need a different phone to do that one at a time.

You also may notice a loud noise when dialing out with the i phone. It does not happen every time but there is no fix for that. Its a loud sonic noise that startles you so keep your volume a bit lower till you get used to it

That's the problem. The instruction book shows a fifth icon, the 'Phone' icon, missing from my display when I hit the Info button:

There are no screens to scroll with this display.

You are right you should have a telephone icon.

There is a hidden screen that gets you deeper into the system. You have to go to the display screen then press the upper left corner then press the lower left corner then press the top left corner then the lower left corner , Eventually you will get to a diagnostic screen . Perhaps some one turned off the blue tooth in this menu. Its a bit tricky to get to the maintence screen Some one else might give you better instructions.; You could allways take the car to the dealer and in a gesture of good will perhaps they would help you with this. I know there are volume adjustments in this hidden screen and this may be where your problem is. The dealer might just matterf of fact know what I am talking about.

Yes. I sold the car and bought a Porsche 911 Cab.

Did you ever figure out how to get the phone icon to show back up on the screen?
