Default What is it ???

Recently purchased a 04 SC 430 and noticed that on the wind screen there is a attachment approximately 5 inch by 2 inches with two antenna. The whole item is approximately 1/2 an inch thick and is glued? In place. It is black and has two wires in the bottom that disappear into the car. It looks like it is part of the car which it is not! A person would not even notice it! Any ideas on what it is? My neighbor thinks it is some type of alarm?

Pics of said proboscis?

Maybe a Sat Radio antenna.

Some aftermarket remote-start units...and two-way car alarms...have an antenna that mounts to the inside of the windshield.

Default More Info.!

Again keep in mind that this is attached to the "wind screen" that is behind the seats. Another item is that in my center console is a holder for what looks like a old style cell phone that also has wires below it. Perhaps an old style antenna for the phone??? Maybe you are right!

I hear those are usually installed under the exhaust and have blinking lights.

It sounds like what they call the mayday system [ Common speak for phone ] I have seen the instructions in the lexus factory shop manual on how to install the mayday system . I think they are referring to older cell phones where you mount the phone in the console compartment then route a harness to the trunk area. If you ever have to take the shifter area wood panel up there is a connector there that just plugs into an empty female connector. The manual says this would plug into the mayday system. Thats all I know

Blister-That sounds like a likely explanation. I have had several people comment on the wind screen attachment saying that it looks like a theft deterrent with the top down! If this does keep people away I will be happy.
