Default BFI Intake SC430

Did a search on this and found no solid info...

I am very interested in doing this mod on my SC.. I know a few here already have attempted, i would like to find out what they did (pics would be great) and how were the results.

I'm not a big fan of Intake kits since their gains are not proven and i would like to keep my SC quiet.. Dont believe it has enough grunt to deserve a growl ..

Thanks,
Moe

It's not any louder during normal driving. It's really only noticeable when you really get on it. Then it is very noticeable.

well worth it in my opinion. i've had more than one passenger give the same response when i stepped on it with the top down. something along the lines of, "holy s***."

Reminds me of a '62 Grand Prix I had years ago. I dropped 3 deuces in it and when I stepped on the gas it sounded like you were sucking in the hood! Loved that sound!

Are you guys talking about the Injen? lots of mixed reviews on that.. many say the performance gain was nill or even dropped with the intake.. The BFI on the other hand seems like the way to go

Most intakes do nothing good in terms of air filtration efficiency, HP gain, etc.

For nice sound, performance exhaust is the way to go. It is more expensive but really worth it. MB, BMW, Porsche all have the performance/sport exhaust as a factory option, but none for the intake.

That tells you something.

BFI is the way to go for intakes.. i believe a good set of performance headers and a racing cat (or catless pipe although i do not like going catless for all the common reasons) are the way to go with your exhaust.. IMO that is

So I was reading on the soarer sites last night about the BFI's for the sc300/400 and I like it. Seems to make sense. Our scoop is larger than the Toyota's and the airbox seems better too. I think all we need to do is open a hole in the airbox facing the headlight area, could be finished with a nice AL ring as shown on the soarer sites.. We should also move the rubber sheathing around the lights - there is a post here about that. I think that way it would be isolated from the engine heat, provide more air when necessary and perhaps have better sound when stomping it. No change to the look but might improve the performance.

Exhaust mods are defintely the way to go for more performance but of course more bucks.

Re. Headers - about how much does the install cost? Are headers more important than a performance exhaust - ie. which one first?
