Picked up my new sc430 two days ago right before i left the dealer the tire senor light went on. They took care of it, now two days later it's back on. Is this a common problem that other owners have had. I will call the dealer today.
In a year and a half the tire sensor light has come on several times on my wife's SC430. Each time it was because the tire pressure had fallen into the 20s.
Evidently a slow leak in the tire. Recently, one tire had a leak of about 2psi per day. Took car to dealer and they said that there was a nail or similar in the sidewall, and that the tire could not be repaired. There was a partial credit allowance toward a new tire, but the whole deal was still pretty expensive.
My light came on when I took it out of its snug winter home early this spring. What surprised me was that I had to drive about 5 miles after I put air in the tires before the light went out.
The factory is recommending to set the pressure at 40 psi. Have you checked your tire pressures yet? I'd recommend to buy an electronic guage to be accurate.
While I do not doubt you, I wonder where you got the information that Lexus is recommending 40psi? Some of the folks here have been told 38, and my service manager told me 36.
During the SC430 training seminar 40 psi was recommended. The tire pressure light will come on at about 28-30 psi. If the tire pressure is set when the tire temp is about 140F, then when cold (ambient temp) could drop as much as 4-5 psi. Since it's normal to lose about 2 psi a month, the light could come on before your next service if it's set at 36 psi or lower. The 40 psi recommendation has nothing to do with ride or performance quality.
