Default Trunk Shock specs? or replacement

Both of my trunk shocks and completely done on my 02 sc430.
I can't believe my local dealer wants $227 EACH.
Does anyone know what the valving specs are so i can source out a generic replacement. As the lexus brand use unicorn tears for lubrication.

Anyone else had to replace their trunk shocks? I have the small spoiler aswell.

Even your local BM stores carry a ton of the struts, front and back.

Why go ebay for $44.00 when I linked the exact same site for $27.90? Is it just more fun on ebay?

Because the site you linked has them for $27.90 each. Plus another $9.51 for shipping. $21.90+$21.90+$9.51=$65.31. Which is a bit more expensive than $44.00 on ebay. But I suppose you could also do it because it's more fun.

Hi battle,

The choice is, as you mention, the dealer or elsewhere.

a. With the dealer you know what you are getting. Not in the technical terms as to drop-rate, etc, but that it is what was on the car originally; given that they have not changed their specs.

b. Elsewhere can sometimes be a crapshoot.

Personally, if were me ( and it is not as of today ), I would just go up to my local NAPA autoparts store. I have bought hood shock/struts there before & am OK with what they sell.

Sometimes it is just blondes vs redheads.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Being from canada makes ordering things a little bit more difficult. But the posts get me going in the right direction.

Kind of a dumb question: Do your trunk supports actually lift up your trunk lid or does it just hold it up after you lift it? I have to manually lift the trunk all the way up and then the supports hold it up. I know with some vans and trucks I've used, the trunk supports open the trunk all the way..no need to manually lift it. I wonder if thats the same for the rest of you?

Our struts are kind of special. It does not have the power to lift the trunk lid as normal cars simply because of the force required to open the top via automatic.

It has to be the best of both worlds, JM2C
