Default Wiper malfunction?

Hi all,

I recently drove my recently bought white 2004 SC430 during rain, and in the 'intermittent' wiper mode, every 10 strokes or so, the wipers would only move 2" up and stop. At the next wipe they would move normally again.
Also, if I would initiate continuous wiping, the wipers would immediately move and work ok.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?
I did recently install nice new wipers.

Wish someone knew what is going on with it and if I could fix it myself instead of bringing it to the dealer...

Well I did some checking. The problem, from your description, sounds an intermittent problem with a connection in one of the wiring harnesses, an intermittent motor, with momentary failures or worse the sprial cable and column switch. The FSM diagnostics requires the Lexus Hand Held tester to be hookup to the DLC3 port (OBDII) and a series of tests, checking for faults. There could be a short in one of the wiring harnesses, or a poor ground connection, maybe a faulty or failing fuse (Pass Side J/B) or a number of other things and that's what the diagnostics are used for. So, sorry to say, looks like you have few options. Live with it, take it in for diagnostics, or start going though all the connection points. Intermittent problems are very difficult to pin down. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Thanks VVTiBob! At least I know now the problem might actually be quite complex -- surely beyond figuring it out myself :-( I'll just take it to the stealership and see what they have to say.

Please be sure to come back here and tell us what they find/fix.

The problem with mine is that it is not intermittent. It occurs consistently on a certain number of beats. I think it is eight.

Ahh...you see, the devil is in the details.

If the problem you were having was occuring every NINE times, I could have told you exactly what the problem was, and it's a simple fix.

But every EIGHT times?...yeah, I got nothin'
