I heard that On Star voice assisted services are no longer just for GM cars.I h eard on the radio today you can buy the equipment needed at Best Buys for $ 295.00. I dont imagine that includes installation. It must be subscription driven. I think that you can get all of the services like remote door unlock directions emergency monitoring etc. If this is so then those of us that have a luxlink could maybe do what Johnny Cake did with his cell phone . Sounds way cool

 

It is built into an aftermarket rear view mirror. I had it in my Acura, GM did this for Acura a while back. My RL was stolen and on star stopped the car in the middle of the street, told the police where the car was, and flashed the lights Very Cool

 

According to an OnStar guy at CES that I saw interviewed, the device is built into a mirror replacement. The only connection to the vehicle is power, so it will not include engine immobilization or engine diagnostics. It does crash detection through sensors built into the unit.
