Default windshield crack

So the other night... found my front windshield crack on the driver's side. It's approx 15' to 20' running from left to right. No visible hit from the front. How could this be? Never had a glass broke on it without actual impact. Anyone else?

It's been known to happen on our cars. Mine broke from driving in sub zero weather then parking in a warm garage. But sometimes it happens for no apparent reason.

Our car... as SC model or Lexus overall? (This is my first lexus)
So no apparent reason, your windshield went out and you got it fixed? Do you have OEM or just alternate? I got a quote from Lexus dealer for $1700!!!!! I'm thinking about calling a local glass guys and get it done somewhere between $300 to $350. What do you think?

Mine broke due to extreme cold, followed by moderate heat. But windshields on the SC430 sometimes break for no obvious reason. I think it has to do with it being a convertible. The frame may be flexed a bit from opening and closing, putting added tension on the glass.

I'd go through your insurance. You'll just have to pay your deductible. Get OEM glass if they'll pay for it. Aftermarket is fine if that's all they'll cover. It shouldn't count against you, so don't worry about your deductible going up. Just for reference, aftermarket is still about $700 including labor.

I'm a big fan of zero-deductible glass coverage. I know that State Farm offers it. We have it on our SC. Worth the piece of mind.

Fifteen to twenty FOOT crack?

Are you driving a SC430 or one of the tanks from Sea World?
