Coin tray again
In my newbie string, I mentioned the stuck switch on the coin tray of my "new" 2003 SC 430. Tonight, I took my pocket knife and gently explored the crack between the tray top and the latch, discovering that it had been glued shut with silicone. A little bit of gentle prying got the clump of silicone out and opened the tray top. Then I confirmed what I suspected when I first found the top was stuck: The little bit of plastic at the bottom of the latch hole was broken off, so it can't be latched. A previous owner had just stuck it in place with silicone glue and left it.
Is it possible to buy a replacement tray cover and put it on? I don't know if the Lexus dealership would have such an obscure part. I also don't think any of the junkyards in my area have any SC 430s. I even checked the Atlanta area auto recyclers when I was visiting my son there a couple of weeks ago' with no results.
I can't attach a picture right now, since I'm sending this from my wife's iPad. If I can get on the computer Saturday, I'll add a photo to the string.
If anyone has had a similar problem, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Personally i've found the little coin tray barely useful. Holds too few coins. I've switched to the eclipse 60 piece gum containers (cylindrical and plastic) that hold all the change you ever seem to need a place for.
I stow it in the center armrest.
Hope this helps should you need an alternative

KBALL is right about the size of the coin tray. However, to answer your question, your Lexus dealer should be able to supply the coin tray parts. It doesn't sound like you need the whole assembly but maybe just the latch. You can get an idea of price from the Sewell Lexus site (link below). My local dealer seems to be able to get anything although the items I want usually must be ordered.

Regarding salvage yards, one that seems to have lots of SC430 parts is XVIPERS in STL. Check out their website also -

coin cover, springs, pins and button can be ordered separately instead of the whole shift plate.
The question is why the previous owner wanted to glue it in the first place.
A missing spring of the open/close mechanism is not a difficult fix.
If the tabs that are holding the springs are broken, you more likely need to buy the whole plate unless you are skillful enough to do some fabrication.

An electrical storm Saturday cut our power, so I couldn't post the picture then.
The residue on the end of the cover is what's left over from the silicone glue.
I think if I buy the cover, I can pull the assembly out and repair it properly.
The diagram with the part number helps greatly. Thanks!
