Default Sway bars for SC430

Do sway bars do more to handle body roll and allow for tighter cornering than stiffer coilovers?

What exactly is "wrong" with the suspension in our cars? The coilovers? The sway bar? Both? Or is there more to it?

Is the suspension in the later model SC430s better or worse? If so, in what ways? I've read that the newer models have softer springs.

Why is it so hard to find even 1 set of sway bars for the SC430, when there are so many types of coilovers available?

If you were to choose to replace stock sway bars or stock shocks, and could only replace one not the other, and it was given to you installed for free (and you could not sell them, this question is for using them), which would you choose and why?

Hi Peter,

As to why there are no sway bars but there are coilovers might just be that the coilovers are built from available parts.

I did a lot of 'modding' to my former BMW. One major spring manufacture used a spring from a Ford truck for his 'improved' BMW suspension system.

Sway bars take a LOT of engineering and, IMO, the market is just too small for anyone to tackle the work & make any money on it.

Wow...really...only one other person is interested in sway bars?

I guess that is why Daizen stopped manufacturing them.

Thanks for the reply Jerry

Well, I'm trying to see if we can get someone to start maufacuring some for us. If there's not enough interest, it might not happen.

Maybe try Tom's 6 links and control arm brackets.

I'm interested but I'm not sure that I'd go back to Daizen.

Not sure how far you want to go, going wider on the tires, and putting in new springs with a 2 inch drop made a world of difference. I don't go on a track, so for street driving my SC handles as well as I need it to. The few times I hit corners really hard, it took very little effort to keep her under control at reasonably high speeds. I would not call it better, but the early SCs were firmer. I think the retuning in the later years was more about adding comfort than improving handling.

me, too, see my other posts on this subject......

I am also curious as to whether any aftermarket shocks uses inertia valve technology, which takes bumps easier but firms up on corning forces????

For the record, I want some bigger sway bar for my SC430 if it is available.

What's wrong with Daizen? You had a bad experience with them?

The purpose of sway bar is to decrease body roll without increasing ride harshness. Stiff springs also reduce body roll also, but it reduces ride comfort at the same time.

The shocks valving is what's wrong, the stock shock is REALLY badly engineered.

They made it softer for comfort.

Shocks, because shocks is pretty much the most important part of a suspension, it determine both ride and handling.
