The first thing that comes to mind...is this an original disc in the reader or a copy. Is it the correct generation disc? Your 02 like mine is a Gen 2/3 system and is only compatible with those discs.
Not sure quite yet, dealer thinks it amy be ECU but I am in process of eliminating if just may be the disc. Actually was waiting on response from Johnny Cake.
Now here's the part that stinks... if someone else upgraded the system's software to a new map set and operating system and then put the old disc back in the system when they sold the car it won't work. It usually takes version 02.1 and later.
what may have happened is the previous owner bought a newer edition DVD. then when they traded in their car, they took the cd and sold it and replaced it with the original dvd. the problem is, newer versions update your OS, so when you put an older disc back in, it won't work. if this is the case, you can wipe the memory. i don't remember exactly how, but i believe it's as simple as disconnecting your battery for 30 minutes.

No this one black in color with yellow letters silver lines and partial silver on lower right quadrant. and the following;
DVD NAVIGATION MAP
NORTH AMERICA
86271-33030
464210-0185 followed by a large D
DATA 2001 ver.1
i worked for Infiniti for years and we could always burn discs and use them (occasionally when we dealer traded a vehicle, this MIGHT accidently happen)
if you need a cheap way to find out, i would check ebay, etc for burnt discs of dif updates and try each one, but i dont know if Lexus's will reject the non OEM disc, but i doubt it. but i dont know for sure. that might be a way to do it on the cheap. i mean face it, we are all friends here.
Well it sounds like you do have an original disk. But it's maybe not version 2.1 operating system or the correct generation version for your car's Nav System.
I upgraded my system earlier this year. Too many streets in the newer areas of San Diego are not listed from my original 2000 disk that came with the car. (The one I described above.) The new 2009 DVD disc is for the Gen 2/3 system that works with my 2002 SC just fine.
Sounds like you need to take it in and let them use the Lexus DTS Scantool check for trouble codes.

I'll do that, and look for the 2/3 system. Thank you for your help..
Does anyone know how to eject and re-install the navigation DVD in the trunk of my 2002 GS430? It has been working perfectly for years until yesterday. I am getting the same message that reads: Unable to read data - Check if map DVD is correct.

In the trunk there's a panel that say "DVD Navigation," or something to that aspect. If you remove the white panel, below it is the DVD player. There's a sliding slot that will reveal an "Eject" button and the CD slot. Press "Eject" and the disc will spool out. Clean and reinsert. Hopefully it will solve your problem. Good luck.
