Default Navigation reset, older version

I updated my navigation to version 8.1, but it was a backup disk copy, little did i know, these don't work too well in gen 2/3. So i want to go back to my factory 7.1. Does anyone know what i have to do in order to get the settings reset. I have read about taking the whole thing apart, wonder if there is a simpler fix.

Thanks in advance,
Jace

from what i've read, it's not possible. it saves a new os onto the hard drive which you can't overwrite. i'd look for a legit dvd on ebay.

Yes you will probably have to get a legit copy of the 8.1 data disk specifically for your generation of nav unit.

The Toyota Service Mgr told me it can be done, but they have to do it. I suspect they have a disk that will delete the OS system then they re-install whatever version you want to use. You might want to check that out. No word on what it would cost, but would think it wouldn't take over an hour of labor. (my 2 cents)

You want to revert to an earlier version of the nav program? The first thing to try is removing power so that the nav program is deleted from volitile memory. With all due respect to Liquid SC, I do not believe that our units have a hard drive, although I could be wrong.

I believe the "take the whole thing apart" fix is limited to when you are using the Override and press bad stuff (like telling the Nav that it is a Japanese unit). Some have had success with disassembly as described here and here.

Of course, the easiest thing would be to just find a more recent disc on eBay!

JohnnyCake, you are correct, there is no hard drive. From what I've read removing power clears out the current OS, just like JohnnyCake mentions.

so just disconnect the battery? or do you have to disconnect power from the navigation only?

Either one will accomplish the same goal. Disconnecting the battery will also disconnect the power to the NAV but will also clear all your other settings (radio, seat, mirrors, steering wheel, etc.). Disconnecting the power to the NAV will limit the reset to the NAV unit but will be much more difficult to accomplish.
