Default Catalytic Converter

Hi All,

I dont know if my first post came on but I cant find it. So sorry if i didnt see it. Im posted another one..My check engine light came on and took it to my mechanic and he replace the sensor but he said if the check engine light goes on again it might be the catalytic converter. Other than buying it at a dealer which is going to cost me about $1200 for one. Is there anywhere else I can buy it from? I'm from California and I know they have different laws here for emission pass. Has anybody from California replace their catalytic converter yet? Please help me find a cheap place to get the catalytic converter from.

Thanks

you can always try the junkyards, if you get lucky and get a pair off a low mileage car you should be set.

they are all over eBay for $55 to $200...I'm guessing by the price there is a small one and a larger one?

Maybe you can get a second opinion? What makes your mechanic think it's the cat anyways? Seems to me a regular OBDII scanner (and capable operator) should shed some light on this problem.

ixx-what about a magna flow that is OBDII California compliant? You might get some HP gain or torque gain AND fix your problem!! Check this out:

Check you mileage
you don't state the year of the car

But, I believe the Cat has a much longer warranty than the 4yr bumper to bumper. It might be a 7yr 100K. Check the manual or the dealer

Do you have this on your car? i was thinking about getting this. I wonder if it will improve the performance on my blitz exhaust.

no, but I had a magnaflow on my 91 300ZX TT with Stillen Cat-back system as well as on my 93 Rx7 TT as well with Greddy and they were great!!! I was able to tell a "little" bit of extra torque/power, but it wasn't night and day or anything like putting in a chip or de-catting your car altogether, which is always fun!!!
