I found a set of rims that I really like for my sc430 (FINALLY..) The bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5, which I assume is the same as 5 x 114; basically it'll fit the SC. However, the owner of the rims is telling me that the offset is +38.
Does anyone know what offset +38 means? I just really want a sexy rear lip..

Thanks!
Yes 5 x 4.5 and 5 x 114 are the same just metric/imperial
Stock offset is +45 just means the new wheels will come out a little more towards the fender.
If you want a *sexy lip you can go much more aggressive offsets +38 would be very conservative.

Basically, it's the distance from the face of the wheel to the rotor.
The offset needs to be wide enough to clear the brake caliper.
For the stock wheels, it's 18" in diameter, with an 8" wheel width, and a 42+ offset (if I remember correctly).
If by chance your wheel is the same diameter and width of the stock wheel (18"x8"), your new wheels will be 4mm shorter than stock (42mm minus 38mm). Not that big of a difference, but the wheelbase will be a little narrower (8mm to be exact, when you count both sides). The difference can be aesthetically corrected with spacers, but if it rides well, then you really don't need it.

Actually, with less offset his wheelbase will be wider, as both wheels move out.
