Default 2002 Check Engine Light

We are happy and excited to announce our purchase of a 2002 SC430 with only 18K miles. It just arrived from the shipper and is beautiful. On our first outing, the check engine light came on. The seller has documented replacing the O2 sensor. We have not yet fueled or otherwise touched the car, other than this morning's short five mile drive. Any thoughts or suggestions?

You can take the car to a AutoZone; they can check to see what code the computer is giving out to cause the Check Engine light to come on.

It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap. My wife took my SC430 on a trip once and refueled it on the way back. The next day, as I was driving to work, the light came on. Turns on, she didn't tighten the gas cap the full three clicks, like you're supposed to.

The fault code will give you a clue as to where to look but, you need an IBD-II reader to get the code (this is what AutoZone can read).

Where did you find a 2002 with 18K? Is this the black one that was on Ebay from Missouri?

Default Our 2002 SC430

We did some careful checking and purchased it from Cross Town Luxury Motors in Minneapolis. We narrowly averted disaster in the form of a 2004 SC430 car from Crystal Motors, also in Minnesota. That is a long story and I'll let the Minnesota AG do their work before I tell it. Since I made the original post this morning, I contacted the seller who discovered the O2 sensor was not installed and they are making arrangements for a dealer here in Indy to do the work at their expense. They have been great to deal with and that will take care of the problem.
