HELP Today the check engine light went on along with the asc off light on and the asc . light all staying on. I disconnected the battery for 5 min. and they still stay on.

 

Often the check engine light only means that the gas cap is not securely tightened down or is not sealing.

My light came on and my dealer wanted $115 to tell me the code. I brought it to Advanced Auto Parts. They read the code for free. Said it was Catalyst system below par. Person told me to try CatAClean. I did and light went off soon after following directions. Worked for me.

 

GregoryNP is correct regarding the Trouble Code or DTC...you're going to need it or them to properly address the CEL problem. Many autoparts stores will take a shot at reading generic DTCs in hopes of getting a sale on the part that needs repair. But beware there are Lexus/Toyota proprietory DTCs. Once you have the code you can use the "Search" tool in our forum to find answers...for example, this THREAD is a good read and post# 13 within it has a link to generic and Lexus/Toyota DTCs. It is a 12 page PDF with some good basic info and most, BUT NOT ALL, Trouble Codes.

 

Well the code is p0051 seems like that's the o2 sensor passenger side front.

 

I thought I caught a mention from someone that there was a diagnostic program that was available for download (IE run on our own laptop plugged in) rather than take it in. True/False? Details if true please!
