i have owned 2 lexus cars and both have been the GS. im thinking about getting an SC. i surfed through the pages to look for rants and stuff and i couldnt find any.
are you guys happy and what are the issues if any that you guys may have?
which years should i consider? i saw that the 2006 had redesigned front and rear light. are they interchangeable with the 2004, 05?
I had a SC430, Black. Nice car, very solid. Only problem I had with it is I could not warm up to the looks (which is a matter of opinion) I now have a SL500 (Black) which I think is one of the best looking cars on the road and it is more sporty and fun to drive then the SC. I have a Mercedes 3 year 100K mile warranty on the SL. I would not want to own a SL without a Mercedes bumper to bumper warranty. The drivetrain is solid and trouble free but the complex suspension and electronics on the SL is very expensive to fix. Mercedes service is on a par with Lexus but you will have fewer problems with the SC. Hope this info helps in your decision.
PS- Girls like the SL better then the SC if that is part of your decision process

I agree totally with Max as a previous SL owner and current SC owner. In one year my SL spent abut 3 months in the shop including two sets of mechanicals for the top.
You could also consider the XK series which I think is a more sporting than SC. In 52k miles my XKR had only one mechanical problem, but that problem required both the engine and transmission be replaced. It was under warranty or I'd be in bankruptcy court lol.
And then there is the XLR but my opinion is its just a gussied up Corvette. When you hit the $85k price point I expect to see no plastic in the cockpit.
Maserati, Aston Martin etc but your in a whole new level of expense at that point. In my opinion think the SC is the best of the bunch as long as you remember your not buying a sport coupe, your buying a sporting coupe (tho I would revisit my opinion if the Jag was a hardtop).

I agree. My SL had a part on the top break one day when I lowered it and had to have the electric lock on the trunk fixed and a strut leaked and had to be replaced. The alarm system still goes off for no reason. But everything is cover under the warranty. But I would still prefer the SL as long as its under warranty. But I'm retired and time is not a big factor. Each repair trip they need my car for about 3 days, have to ship in parts. But they always are nice and give me a loaner and my car is detailed everytime I pick it up. I do know SL owners that never have a problem and the newer the SL the fewer the problems. I've never seen a 2003 or newer with over 100K miles so I don't know what the cost of repairs would be with a high mileage SL and I don't think I would want to findout.
I have owned an 02, an 05 and an 06. Even though I am now getting ready to swap my 06 for an SL550, I would highly recommend the SC at it's price point. Great cruising trouble free car. I found the 06 to be quite improved over earlier years with a better trans, better head and taillights and the suspension feels much better than earlier years being more compliant to the road while the chassis felt stiffer with less full body shudder on rough roads.

As I said, I recommend the 06 SC at its price point of $50Kish. The SL500 was never worth the $45-50K more that dealers were trying to get. Now the SL550 with 80 extra HP at under $30K more is making me jump. So its the increased power and aggressive MB pricing that are getting me to switch.

I agree I would reather have the 550 then a 600, higher tech engine almost as fast and a lot less depreciation.
