Default Tein Cs Reworked

Yesterday i've changed the the OEM TEIN Springs (10kg/6kg) against TEIN 12kg/8kg, cos' for me the suspension was a way to soft, especially the back.

Well - all i can say is: what a difference it made - like day 'n' night. If you feel the same with the CS OEM setup - this is the way to go, you won't regret it!!! Also you can go further, but keep in mind the harder a spring the higher the chassis will come At the lowest position (you can go depper, but no tension is made to the spring anymore) Height from bottom across center of wheel to fender is now 67 cm which is allways 1 cm lower than TEIN OEM settings.

It is interesting that the new CST (7kg,6kg) have even a lower spring rate than the original set yet with the new valving system has a fairly firm and stable ride.

So physically the front must be softer by 43% when it rams, hence the Damper acts faster to reduce re-bouncing forces of the spring. Which gives a firmer suspension and ride.

Maybe someone can try Ohlins or Bilstein.

RSR has 3 sets of springs for you to choose from.

F:10 R:8 (recommended)
F:8 R:6 (soft)
F:12 R:10(hard)

I had the Bilsteins installed-a thread somewhere here.

Powermax-what took you so long? I figured you would have had coilovers long ago buddy.

Yes i had the TEIN Coilovers over a year - and was thinking of switch over to the new model, but as i read their spring rates i decided to go for stiffer ones instead of changing the wohle damper setup. As i said before - great handling and road-feel - just what i wanted! And if i like it harder - it is possible to reactivate my old FR Springs(10kg) onto the Rear...

the only complaint i have with the SC430 is that the driving dynamics suck. much of the criticism of the car (from a handling perspective) was true. with the following modification, the car transformed from a boulevard cruiser to a pretty fine GT.

some background, i purchased a new '05 and in '06 switch wheels (volk 19" prorgressiv te) and installed Tein CST with EDFC. yesterday, i did the swap from original 7/6kg springs to 9/8 kg springs on the Tein CST. new springs are 1" to 1.5" shorter so that when you lower the car, spring tension is maintained (you lose spring tension as you go lower and the spring is stretched out). didn't see anything else different that the original springs such as thicker coils or whatever.

but WOW. all i can say is, smoother (didn't expect that) and significantly more controlled, as the balance is now appropriate for a GT-type car. firm but silky (zero harshness). definitely a lexus ride but now with "GRAND SPORT." feels like a cruise missile. drastic improvement to handling from original CST. still not a car to toss around in tight winding roads but superb for fast sweeping curves. the rear springs don't give out but stay firm in high speed turns and the car is much more controlled resulting in much higher level of confidence at speed 80-110 for passing and long open stretches.

this is a must do for CST owners looking for "comfort sport" but your results may vary depending on the height of the car.

thanks powermax for the heads up.

notes:

if you know the 134 (west) to 2(south) interchange from pasadena to eagle rock, i did around 65-70, perhaps higher but i kept my eyes on the cars i was navigating around.

i have edfc and prior to the swap i kept the settings at 10/8 (clicks away from firmest settings). now i have the following: 1/0 freeway; 5/3 boulevards (rough/uneven highway); 16/16 if i want to fall asleep.

Hello. So the Sc 430 is not a great handling car? I am looking at getting myself a toy. I enjoy spirited back roads driving. I have been considering Porsches for the last few months. The only Lexus that I think looks great is the SC430.
I noticed that most of the threads (so far), seem more about cosmetics than performance.
Is this model more of a looker (it is BEAUTIFUL!) than a goer?

Thanks for any feedback!

until i did the most recent modification, i couldn't say with a straight face that the car is a goer.

now, i really enjoy driving the car and find myself taking it late nights to find empty roads. it drives like nothing else i've driven. i've driven 997s and the SC is not a porsche (or even close). it's just too heavy and its focus is different. nevertheless, it's enjoyable to drive, just in a different way. extremely comfortable, quiet and smooth... and now it sticks it in curves. totally surreal. like i said before, it feels like a cruise missile. hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I would NEVER come anywhere near to maxing out the capabilities of a Porsche, so that is why I was thinking that there may be better options for me.

Where can you pick up the CST's and an EDFC controller? I was on Tein's website, and what they listed for the SC430 didn't work with an EDFC, but I see some of you are running with it... Thanks!

Try CL vendors like TM Engineering or Carson Toyota.
