I understand completely that VSC is Lexus's yaw control system and how it works. My question is this: Does deactivating the VSC via the console button have any effect on the SC's traction control (TRAC) system? I've owned cars that simultaneously disable the traction control system when the yaw control system is switched off, and others that kept traction control engaged fully or at a reduced level when the yaw control was disengaged.

Do any of you know definitively whether switching off VSC has any effect on the TRAC system?

 

As far as I know and have experienced it disables everything when off.

 

I concur, but I don't think you can completely keep Lexus from helping you out if you get totally out of shape. Could be wrong though.

 

That's the way it feels to me, too, but I wasn't sure. In some cars--VW/Audis come to mind--you have to go through a rather elaborate process to completely disable traction control. I haven't been able to locate anything in the documentation that comes with the car or anywhere on the web that answers this question definitively.

 

Well, all I can add to this is that the SC430 shares the same VSC as the GS400 I had and I spun that car completly around a few times with VSC off.

 

indeed that's wrong. when vsc is off, everything is off. whatever you do you will have to face the consequences. dont' want to go into details but let's just say i have first hand experience.

only turn off vsc when you KNOW what youa re doing

 

I read somewhere (one of the major car mags) if you turn it off, it's completely off...until you hit 30 or 35 mph. That's why those car mags were happy to annouce certain 07' Lexus vehicles (LS & IS) VSC will be permanently disabled everytime you turn it off.

 

in the 07 that's not VSC anymore, that's VDIM i believe, pretty different system (far more advanced)

 

When you turn off VSC or VDIM for the newer ones....you're on your own. And thats also when the fun begins Just keep an eye out on your tire tread because that will go down pretty fast. Also, remember that with VSC off you better know what you're doing. When I first got my car I always spun out when I had the VSC disabled...sometimes in the middle of a street or intersection

Now, that I'm a lot better at controlling it...it's not such a big issue anymore. I just need to keep an eye on my tire tread

 

you guys wana hear my experince, (first week I had the car) I had left the VSC off and entered the freeway at 100+MPH and I changed lanes quickly to avoid cars in front of me and I lost control did a full 360, I was lucky the freeway was wide and I didnt hit anything, I controlled it by NOT slamming the brakes and letting the car gain control by its own momentom,

o ya, top was down too!

Check out page 252-253 of the owner's manual for a long answer. Both the VSC & the TRAC are controlled with the same "switch". Directions are listed for turning off both
TRAC and VSC by pressing and holding the VSC switch for more than 3 seconds. Read carefully because the PCS or pre-collision system will also be turned off when you do this. Ah, if you want to just turn off the TRAC system you press the VSC switch quickly but not for 3 seconds. So your answer is Yes.
