Default Strange Shift Light Problem

Had my 02 SC in for a service and I had them fix the gear shift in accordance with the TSB that was issued by Lexus to fix the sticky shifter coming out of park.

Seems that the adjustment to the cushion and shifter has been fixed. Feels a lot stiffer than before and does not seem to stick

Today I just notced that I was driving with the shifter in the "4" position on the gate and it was showing "D" on the speedo cluster. I also tried it in 2 but it won't show that gear either. It shows "3" when in 2nd.

I think that whatever they did to fix it they messed up something. Has anyone had this TSB done from their dealer and if so, did it cause any problem(s) for you.

Seems like the car isnt shifting from D to 4, as I usually get a slight bump up in the revs according to the gearing.

Going to call my dealer ad get them to see what is wron but I thought I would throw it out there and see what if any responses I can get.

Thanks

I've got an '02 also, but am unaware of a TSB regarding a sticky shifter. Also, I don't have sticky shifter, as far as I know, but am curious as to what the exact problem is that the TSB addresses.

As for your car, I would think that before you head back to the dealer you get a good reading on what all the symptoms are. First, you say it "seems like" the car is not shifting from D to 4. You need to find out if it is; get going 50 or 60 and shift down a few times, and see if it is shifting or not. If you are not going fast enough, D and 4 are the same thing.

Then find out what lever position makes the indicator lights change, and is this the same when the car is moving as when it is not. My guess is that the alignment for the whatever device that signals the lights is off, and may not be a big deal to fix.

Good luck with this, as 4 can come in handy. And if you can post some additional info regarding this TSB, I would appreciate it.

I had the same problem with my 02. The shifter sometimes would not come out of park without trying it a few times. It was repaired at the dealer, but after a few days I found that it would not go into 2nd or 4th even though the indicator light was on. I went back and they fixed it. Although it does feel stiff between 1st and 2nd I don't recall if they all feel like that.

Thanks for the input guys, in regards to the TSB, I pulled them off the internet a while back, I cant remember where I got them from but they were official ones released by Lexus. There were two of them, one that addressed the shift cushion issue and the other adressed the problem with the Levinson stereo and amp that caused it to do crazy things like display strange symbols instead of track and eq settings and the other was that it would come on at very high volumes for no reason at all. They replaced the amp and to date all is well

I printed the copies of these off and gave my only copies to the dealer but I will look and see if I can google them again. But any Lexus dealer sould have them, they were several years old, from 03 I think.

I talked to the dealer and they are going to take a look at it and get it fixed. I do need to sort out what exactly it is doing, not displaying the proper gear or actually not going into the proper gear. I am pretty sure its the former and is just a display problem.

I will post once it is fixed..
