Default Whats the difference?

I'm looking to purchase a used SC 430 and cannot find what, if any differences there are in the model years. Looking at a 2002 and 2004 in the dealers lot it seemed as if only the instrument (air /radio/ect.) panel was different material. Anybody able to give me any specifics as to what changes were made that might help me decide between model years.

I also notice many people here have traded in their SC's. I've had great luck with my other Lexus models, any reason not to expect the same from this beauty?

Thanks... Great Forum!!

Welcome to the forum! As far as I know, changes were made for known problems, like suspension, etc., but there were no major changes, and no major cosmetic changes. I think its a great car, I've been running my 2002 since 4/01 with no major problems! Once warranty runs out, my only fear will be potential repair costs for the roof mechanism

i think the suspension was reworked, nav was enhanced, and bluetooth added to the '05

for 05, i believe the suspension is changed. the nav is the new 4th gen, which has the voice recognition. it also has bluetooth. the wheels got a new style as well.

This past May I traded-in my `02 SC430 for an `04, and the only difference discernable is a better navigation system (and this is not to say that the nav in the `02 was not good). I was very happy with my `02 until I began having problems with the roof mechanism. My Lexus Service Department installed new motors and cables under the warranty and the roof worked fine again, but I didn't want to take any chances. I traded for an `04, after speaking with my Service Technician who told me that Lexus had further improved the roof operating system since the `02s. Zero problems so far on my `04. The only other advice I would offer is that whichever model you decide to get, be sure to install a clear bra over the front, side mirrors, and headlights.

I have an 02 with over 40k miles on it. The only problem I have had was with the trunk lifting struts.

The seats can also be reclined further for the 04 model, & welcome to the forum

Hmm. I had the same problem with the trunk lifting struts. They wore out after a while (I have an 02 SC delivered in April 01). Dealer replaced them under warranty, even though the chief technician said it's normal for them to wear out).
When they specified the new ones, the parts department asked whether there was a spoiler or not. So, I guess it's possible that they realized that they needed a stronger strut for trunk lids with spoilers (which would make them somewhat heavier).

Au contraire. Unlike Virginia, in the Chicago area, it's extremely rare to find a used 2003-05 SC 430 available for resale.
But for the scant trunk space and run-flat tire issues, the SC 430 is the epitome of luxury roadster perfection.
