Pinion seal is leaking?
So I was told the pinion seal is leaking from differential. I have to take it to a differential/ transmission place. Have any of you guys changed this. Any tips advice. The part is cheap from Lexus. Only 25 bucks
If you mean the input shaft from the transmission yeah mine has been wet for like 30k miles. Honestly I just check the diff fluid every 20k orso and barely have to add any when i do. Its such a small leak i dont care to go thru all the work to remove the diff and fix it proper. Its not like im towing a trailer with my 2006 Sc with 200 k miles. Lol XD
let us know if you get it fixed tho, it's good to know the total cost for repair on these older cars.

Anyway, surprisingly I was quoted 150 labor and 180 labor from 2 trans/diff companies. I was shocked. I told them I bought the filter, so it would be about 220 if they bought the filter. very reasonable. I don’t know if that includes complete drain and fill or just top off what’s lost. One hour book time it seems
I'm totally confused now. The differential can have a leak. So can the transmission. Two completely different parts. Both have seals. But only the transmission has a filter.
I would expect labor to be about 1.5 hours plus parts. For either one. More hours if you want the transmission fluid and filter changed. I would also pay more and have them change the differential oil at the sametime.

it’s not leaking from the transmission, it’s leaking from the seal.here is the part
I’m getting quotes from a couple transmission shops that are saying book time is 8 hours to change the seal. A couple other said 1 hour quote. Why are they giving me completely different labor times. Is the low quote wrong and they are going to bait and switch me. Help, I’m stressed.
To do the Rear Axle Pinion seal I would guess is 1.5 hours labor doing the drain and re-fill of the gear oil at the sametime. There is no filter.
If you have a rear differential place in your area I would go to them over a transmission shop.
If you don't Search Randy's Ring and Pinion and call them and ask for a dealer of theirs in your area.
