Question about reprogramming ECU with ODB pins 4 and 13
I got a NEW quantum ECU since I was the very first 06 SC430 to do it. They've updated them a little since then and offer an upgrade for a small fee. So I received my new ECU, swapped it, did the odb pin 4/13 30 minute dance -- and the car still doesn't start. That strikes me as odd, because usually it will start and fuel cut with the immobilizer.
Here's the rub. My nav screen is in pieces while I work on retrofitting it so I can't see that diagnostic screen that usually comes up confirming you're in program mode. My dash lights looked normal during the process. So i'm wondering if it even did it? I tried 3 (90 minutes!!!) times with the same results.
Here's my questions:
1) I can't remember, should the dash lightup like a Christmas tree on the 06+ models during the process? or is all the info usually on the nav screen only?
2) I searched techstream but couldn't find a way to do it from there, is there a way? The immobilizer reset in there requires a TIS passkey.
3) If its not even starting and cutting, does that mean they just sent me the wrong ECU or something?
I emailed them too, but I wanted to see what the consensus was here.
Even if I get the engine running, I think this ECU is incorrect based on the "Outside Temp" display.

joemg,
I can't tell you about the 06+ models, but on my 2002, I've done to pin 4/13 dance between the quantum ECU and stock ECU several times without the navigation screen or computer in place and afterword it would start without issue. The instrument cluster would flash like a Christmas tree for 30 minutes (or longer) until I removed the jumper. I never saw the E1 error you're getting on the climate control display. Once during the several times going back and forth between the ECUs I tried to start the car without doing the 30 minute sync first; the car started the first try for about 1 second and then immediately stalled and would not start afterword until the sync was completed. Something is likely wrong with your connections to the ECU (check the plugs again) or the ECU has a problem. If after checking the new ECU wiring and the car still does not start, temporarily plug the known good ECU back in and try to start the car, it should try start and then immediately stall. If it starts and stalls, then you will know that new quantum ecu likely is the problem.

yup, I think it’s the ecu. I’ve done this process several times before when they were first getting it right.
Just once I want something to work on the first shot, lol.
once I swap back it will confirm like you said.
EDIT: just spoke to Brandon and he accidentally shipped a 5spd ecu. We’re going to swap it out.

I bet the correct ECU will do the trick. We'll be waiting here patiently to hear your results with the new ECU. I'm curious, what are the updates in the programing going to improve? I've been happy with my 5sp quantum flashed ecu from earlier this year.

The two biggest changes are:
1) “dyno mode” which makes manual mode act like a real manual. The car stays in the gear you choose. (Instead of downshifting automatically)
2) Power mode is a lot smoother than mine. Tapping the pedal on mine basically feels like WOT. It will be nice to have more pedal modulation.
He said there have been updates to the transmission changes/maps and he mentioned he gets about 25mpg in “snow” (eco) mode.
They also offer a “crackle mode” which retards the timing on deceleration causing the popping sounds the kids like. We both agreed that probably has some longterm negative impact on the engine, so I did not get that.
I’ll report back after the swap.

average about 15.5mpg
