Cool 2006 odometer in 2004 dashboard!! would it work?

Hi,

I have a 2004 SC, I want to install the new digital with back light odometer. Does anyone know if it will fit or I have to do some modifications? Are the connector the same?

I found a used 2006 full odometer that contains all the gages in a very clean condition for about US$ 420, so is it a good price?

I would appreciate any comments in this issue.

Turboo,
This would surely be a great mod, if it can be done but personally I dont know if it would work out. hopefully other will chime in with some advice on this. I had been thinking of doing a similar mod but instead of installing an 06' dash; i thought of just remove the odometer section and replace all the backlights with LEDs. Ive seen a couple of sites that sell Gauge Cluster LEDs but once again I dont know this mod could be done either. hope all works out man, ill be sure to keep on checking this thread for updates. keep us up to date on any info u find out.

I think the manumatic shifter would kind of mess it up because of the size difference and where the lights go for P, D, N, etc.

Perhaps the gauge cluster LED's might be a good way to go?? Maybe do the 2006+ tails and when you are in there getting rid of the bulb for the "light bulb out" indicator you can add the LED's????

This would be a NEAT mod to do at once. I am ordering the 2006+ tails and can't justify paying the extra $300 for the ECU. I am thinking about getting into that gauge cluster and either removing the bulb or putting black tape over it.

I believe he is talking about the indiglo gauges...not just an LED change.

Hi Dave,

As you said it will be a great mod and I dont see any barrier as both odometers are looking the same!! however, I dont to waste 420$ and then the 06 odometer wont fit
regarding the Gauge cluster LED, I am sorry to say it wont work I have contacted a very professional site that offers doing this mods for LS400 and the said as long as your SC original odometer is not a digital" already fit with LED" they can not do any thing so SC430 from 01 to 05 nothing to do
but if your SC is 06+ they can change the LEDs to many great themes like summer theme, winter theme, dark theme.....ets.

I personally triad to change the lights on my SC430 04 odometer but could not as all the lights need to be desoldred to be removed and it is very trickey as you might endup destroing other leds

so lets wait and see others replys hopping that some body can comfirm the swap.
thanks Dave for your comments and knowledge sharing

Default to make it clear

I want to cahnge
A type
to
B type
from this A type:-

A type =

to this B type :-

B type =

I have A type in my car and found a used B type for 420$ so the question is:-
can I swap to type B with doing any modifications?
Does a used type B worth 420$? how much is it new?

thank you all and sorry for the poor explanation that I post in the begining

Yup, it is doable.
I have seen a Japanese tuner did it before, but he said the conversion was difficult without giving details.

$420 is a good price. Cluster assy alone is more than $1200.

This is the SC430 (one of my favorites) that has the 06+ headlight, taillight and odometer conversion.

Exclamation latest update

Hi all,

The seller agreed that I can try it on my car and if it did not work I can return it. So, I took it to a workshop specialized on Lexus cars. The technician tried it but it did not work!!!
He said that the odometer lights did not glow!! However, he said he can make it work by cutting some wires and soldering some wires and he will charge me around 150$.

What you think, should I go for it or keep my original odometer and prevent cutting wires??

I will appreciate any recommendation.

Note: I am only afraid that Check engine light will glow and it is a headache to turn it off

I wish it were my car that had so many bells and whistles under the hood.
It is actually one of the demo cars from Garage Answer of Japan.

That is why that tuner said it was difficult.

I don't see his car has the warning light issue at all.
I can scan that Japanese auto magazine that shows his 06+ odometer conversion, but it looks pretty much the same as the type B pic you have posted.

If he can make it work for $150, I will try it for sure.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I would like to know if it's possible to covert the gauge assembly from 02-05 to 06-10.
