So I got a brand new ACDelco water pump to install on my 1994 SC300, and noticed a strange hole on the top of the pump. This hole is separate from the weep hole on the bottom of the pump and is not threaded. I was wondering if I need to somehow plug this hole and how I would go about such a thing? I've exhausted all the search options trying to find info on this and had no luck. Photos for reference.
Made in China parts are suspect especially critical parts like a water pump. How much are you even saving? Nothing against China these parts are built to a price point.
OMG the hole is designed in. It is called a weep hole. When the shaft seal ruptures antifreeze will drip out to alert you the pump is failing.
Install that thing & be done w/ it.
I've seen so many of those generic pumps fail. And yes that's a generic in a Delco box. Best of luck.
You sure?
Yes
I would personally only use a Toyota or Aisin pump due to the amount of work it takes to replace it again if it fails. The dealer pump has a small metal tube hanging out instead of a hole, same purpose.

I've got it installed and it sounds like the pump has 2 weep holes, one with the metal tube hanging out, and the other is the hole I was perplexed about. Thanks for the info!
