Default unusual color?

Hey all- I just sold my '98 es300, in order to make room for my newly purchased '95 SC400! After a long search, I found this one and really liked the color. I'm picking it up in a week. It seems to be a fairly rare color- whadya think?

Nice score, thats a gorgeous car. The color is called platinum metallic and its not as common as most other colors. there are charts out there with the production numbers of each color out there. I have the the hood and trunk from a platinum car on my black sc for the 2 tone look and I love this color. It changes from looking silver in darker settings to looking a blue ish color on sunny days, great buy, take good care of it and will last a lifetime. Invest in some decent detaling products like klasse to keep that paint pristine.

Now you just need to swap the steering wheel to a three-spoke. The color is nice

Toyota had a similar colour, close but not quite as nice. What's the paint code? This is 8D8.

It's basically a shade of silver. For years, especially during the 90', Toyota/Lexus had problems with silver color so they made a shade of it. I guessed silver tend to fade faster than other colors. It was not until late 90'' when the actual silver color came back.

Platinum Silver was one of my favorite colors. I haven’t seen it in a really long time.

"It's basically a shade of silver" Really? I never would've guessed that! I also didn't know it was such a "problem color". My original point was, that it's apparently a rare color to see on an SC driving around.
