Cargo Box on SC300
Done some browsing online in attempts to find photos of people doing this, but to no avail. I am posting to see if any of you have roof mounted cargo boxes on your SC's. I'm getting my SC ready for a sizable road trip at the beginning of June and the SC has nowhere near enough space for two people with luggage and camping gear.
Hoping to hear from you all to see if you've got anything like this on your vehicles, if so please attach photos of some sort.

Agreed. Bike rack will turn up more hits on the mounts. Same same. Someone took a trip and used a cargo carrier. I think they left NY AND went west, but again..... many moons ago. It’s here though.

If you're looking into a Yakima rack for the SC you will have to use their older round bar and Q-tower system. For the "Q-Clips" you'll have to find them used or old new-in-box because Yakima no longer makes the required #Q14 clips.
You should be looking at the following to use their system:
--4x Q Towers SKU #8000124
--2x packs Q14 clips (discontinued, find used) SKU #8000614
--RoundBar Medium 58" SKU #8000409
--40" WindShield Faring SKU #8005017
--SKS Locks 4-Pack SKU #8007204
And then you can add whatever box of theirs or from someone else that you want to. The total roof rack weight limit for a 1992-2000 SC is 165lbs including the rack hardware and box. The weight limitation for many car roof box systems and applications is pretty common as I have learned-- it's not just the SC that is so limited on roof weight loading. I don't remember my figures but I think I determined that depending on how light the box is you can add 80-100lbs of cargo up there. If it's mostly camping gear, or a couple of suitcases or any bulky but generally light cargo it's a pretty useful system for long trips where either of those would apply.

Here are some pictures that I found when doing my research on this. These examples are not from my car but from another member's here on CL. Sorry I don't remember who it was. No boxes in these pics but you can see how the Yakima roof rack system looks on the car. Apologies if they're reposts from other threads:

And here are a couple of saved PDF build sheets from when I was doing research on this on Yakima's website a couple of years ago. Unfortunately now you cannot generate this info from their site as the 92-00 SC300/400 isn't even an available option any longer. However all of the parts listed with the exception of the Q14 Clips are still widely available from them.

I had a similar set up on my '96 SC4 and to be honest I HATED it. It was convenient for taking my bike or gear with me... However, the doors closed poorly and the wind noise was very noticeable because of that.
I have a friend that runs a sea sucker set up on his GTI: https://www.seasucker.com/
It's much cleaner, no need to mount two towers to each door, and is much easier to use. I highly recommend it!

Thanks everyone for your input. Purchased some of the Q clips and towers mentioned above - not too worried about wind noise as I'm certain it'll still be better than the noise in my '97 Explorer. :P Will definitely post photos with the roof box and from the trip.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
