Default Redline!!!

I just have a simple question. . .

How often do you guys hit redline (or close to it)?

I RARELY do. And each time I do, I feel bad, and apologize to my baby. Then I give her a cool-down-period, whether she needs it or not. I listen to the engine and make sure the tranny is still in tact. I'm a freak, aren't I? Five years ago I'd be floorin it all day and all night (drunk) as if there were no tomorrow. I take pride in babying my cars. But I do like to have fun with them once in a while . Granted, when I had my toys (mustangs and camaros) I took them to the track. But, they were built for that ****. I'll quit babblin. Later.

I don't think you need to panic about it, the RPM cut-out is set very conservatively.
Harry Lemmens is working on an ECU mod that amongst other things will raise the RPM cut-out by another 1000 RPM, and no-one seems to be concerned about it.

Redline was put there for a reason. Don't be afraid to go near it.

My car sees 7,500 RPM probably every day. That is on stock block, head, cams, etc. I am sure an NA Lexus can handle the 6,500 RPM rev limiter that was given to it on a daily basis.

I, too, feel guilty when I hit redline. Just not used to the sleeping beauty making that much noise!

Drive it like you stole it.
Hit the redline whenever you can, with the wheels spinning if possible. Extra points for sideways action.

Dey luv dat sh@#.

I thought it didn't make sense to go to redline since max power tapers off after a certain rpm which is before redline?

Even though max power is before redline, say 6000 rpm, there's still more power at redline (say 6500 rpm) than at 4500. So if you shift at 6000 rpm, you'll drop to a lower rpm (4500) with less power than shifting at redline and dropping to 5000 rpm. These numbers are made up btw.

It is all about staying in your powerband.

If max power was at 5,000 RPM and you think that is the best place to shift, you hit the next gear at ...what ... like 3,000 RPM ? Not very much power there. But if you shift at 6500 RPM then you hit the next gear at like 4,500, still in powerband

Hey I’m with Fred Smith, I pamper my car when it comes to its maintenance and what kind of products I put in it. But when it comes to driving her I have a lead foot and I drive hard but I love every minute of it, well that’s until I have to fill up my gas tank again.

when im at a stop light i like to put the e-brake all the way up, and when i see the perpindicular light adjacent to me go yellow, i floor it and get in the 2800 RPM range, then i let off the e-brake and floor it to about 5000 RPMs.. do you know if using the ebrake is bad for the car?
