Tex, thanks for chiming in. My 94 has a steel wheel with the inside painted black as Gerrb mentions above and the exterior of the rim
is gray. For a car of this class having a step-down wheel for a spare seems a bit out of place. I wonder if it could have been an option to have a normal road wheel vis-à-vis the steel.
^^^ I had at least 16 SCs (both sc300 / sc400) even in gold package ... all had black rims with full size 16" brand new tires as reserve. I have never seen a reserve wheel of same spoked design just like the normal wheels.
Well at least they were not darn small donut wheels with small tires which many cars have.
Anyone know top of their head if it clears LS400 or Supra BBK?
SC300/400 factory steel spare wheels will not clear these. The most common recommendation over the years has been to locate a used 93-98 Supra Twin Turbo spare space saver steel rim. Alternatively an SC430 spare should be the same thing-- many SC430's were sold with run-flat tires and no spare but some of them that were optioned without run-flats came with a factory space saver spare.
You can find new tires for these in the correct original sizing or very close from tire rack. Most of the space saver spare tires are surprisingly expensive for what they are but a couple are acceptably priced.
