I just had the Lexus Dealership put a factory spoiler on my car. Spoiler looks great, the only problem is that now the trunk is too heavy, and the trunk won't stay open by itself. It's pretty funny to watch me try to get something out of my trunk actually...before I get 2 hands on whatever it is I'm trying to get out of the trunk, the trunk shuts on my head.
Anyway, any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
hey what’s up, well all you have to do is replace the trunk shocks, call up the dealer or auto parts store and tell them that u want trunk shocks it for an SC with a spoiler and that’s all u should have to do. Just replace the shocks and you will be set.

What’s up NDClassof2, I see you are in Ohio, I am in Columbus, you anywhere close ??? As for your trunk struts all you need to do is get some new ones and you should be set, If I were you I would make sure when you get them that you get the ones for a 400 or you make sure it states a rear spoiler. the reason I say that is more 400 came with spoilers then 300 and also there are diff struts... I ordered my off the net for a SC400 and they fit fine on my SC300... I right now don't have a spoiler but I will b getting one also I have placed Dynamat on my trunk lid and I wanted to make sure that the new struts would be able to handle everything... When I first put on the struts and I would pop the trunk it would fly open with out any Dynamat on it. Since the install of my struts I have placed Dynamat on my trunk and when I open it, it still opens all the way up on its own and I think once I get the spoiler installed I would have not problem with the trunk staying open.. Again it is very easy to install them and less then 50 for the both of them....
My 92 SC400 had worn out struts. However my SC400 never came with the spoiler. When it came time to change the strut, I just ordered the ones that will support the spoiler (knowing I will one day install a spoiler). You can get the part from Lexus, but get ready for a good cash-jacking.
Through the forums I saw everyone was replacing there struts using rockauto.com. www.rockauto.com.
At the rockauto.com website search for you car and look under Body Exterior / Lift-Support
For $19 bucks, I opted for the AC/Delco #510129. (I know, I know, GM part on a Lexus car).
No more sagging trunk for me, actually since I still have not installed the spoiler, now my problem is closing the trunk. As soon as I hit the trunk button the lid goes flying up, and it takes considerable force to close it. That should all balance out when I get the spoiler on there.
Originally posted by NDClassof2 700 installed...kinda pricey, but it looks good, and has the LED light
Labor and material? Holy S****!!!!!!
That's about $400 dollars just for the labor install alone. Yikes!!!!
When I purchased my Lex, the car came with the spoiler, but the owner never put it on.
He bought the spoiler seperate for $275.00 which came w/ the led brake. And I'm getting
prices to have it installed.

Thanx LexusBiz for the link... When I ordered mine that is where I got them from, was like $44 or so shipped and they got shipped to me very fast... with in like 2 or 3 days...
Thanks for the help, everyone. I got my trunk shocks through NAPA, and although they were a little pricey ($70 for both), they were delivered to me the same day from the warehouse. Thanks again!
