Default Questions about door speakers

Hey guys, I am looking to do a bit of a system in my car over winter and am looking for some advice on speakers. I want to run a small amp to power the front speakers, and probably a single 10" sub in a sealed box. Anyway I am thinking of going to 5-1/4"s since I think I am only going to run some front components. I have seen some adapters for sale, but I have also seen people say they don't work/are junk, etc. I am looking for some pictures of what you guys have done, and any suggestions you guys may have. Thanks in advance

Sean

You can fit 5.25's in the stock door pods if you make a new cover plate to mount them to. You could probably go bigger still if you did away with the pods altogether and built a mount directly to the cutout in the door frame.

I am just concerned with how much of the speaker will be blocked by the door panel if I go 6.5" I don't really want to get too nutty with redoing the door panels.

A 6.5" will be covered by the door panel and won't project the sound out of the grill properly. You'll have to cut the door to place a 6.5" properly.

There is a definite acoustic advantage to having your door speakers in an enclosure. I'd remove the port, seal off that opening and stick with 5¼'s if they'll fit in the factory pods. They'll be better isolated from moisture, too.

They make foam enclosures that look like a cupcake wrapper. They protect the speaker from inner door moisture and sound quite good in my experience. I thought about going that route on the SC, but the shape of our cutouts makes that a bit more work, likely requiring an adapter plate that may stick out too much in places. Re-using the stock enclosure is definitely easiest.
