Many members on here are boosting...do a search for the infamous "2jzgte swap", or "sc300 turbo"

Hi all, I'm a 16 year old student and I am gonna get an SC3 soon (92 probably - jobs @ 16yrs old don't pay much lol), if all goes well. What would be the most drastic increase in speed, with emphasis on acceleration for the SC, the stock 0-60 is 6.8 I believe...it only beats my dad's 2000 camry by like .3 seconds. I want to spend under around 1500 on this mod. By the way...anyone selling their SC in the LA area?
First rule is "Speed is money", so, how fast do you want to go?
For $1500, you don't go very fast with an SC, but it's a start. First of all get a decent exhaust, Greddy, JIC (although JIC's price just went up
). Figure $600-$1000. (Check with Steve Ganz at Tarson Toyota for a deal on exhausts). Next would be the Air filter, go for the drop in K&N or TRD and then do a search for BFI in the SC forums about building a DIY ram air intake for just a few $. With the $500 or so you have left, you can get a NOS kit, or a set of lowering springs and shocks. If you shop well, you might even have enough money left for an Apexi S-AFC (~$275 on eBay). That should about tap out $1500. When you save up some more, go for bigger wheels and tires and the Supra brake upgrade.
When you've gotten that far, about all that's left is to start looking at boosting, but you'd better figure at least $6k to even get started!
Before you spend any money, do a search on the things I mentioned above. You'll find a wealth of info and ideas, and links to lots more things you can do!
Good Luck!

I'm 2 or 3 weeks away from adding a custom made turbo kit, that might revolutionize the SC300's power abilities for low funds.. Figure a turbo kit for less than $3000, with 350-400 HP potential? I'll have pictures and updates for everyone.
well, the 2000 camry weighs in around 325 pounds lighter then the SC300 and has minimally less horespower, the toyota v6 pushes 194hp and the 2jz-ge is 225hp. Adding the 300 pounds and extra HP to the SC, they are just about equal in speed. 0-60 for SC is either 6.8 or 6.9, someone disagreed with my number above and I'm probably wrong, however I know for a fact that the camry is 7.1 - not too shabby. Both quarter miles are in the mid15 range. The SC has a lot more parts natually, built on the Supra base. Has anyone beaten 6.8 in their SC or made it into the 14s on the quarter mile? Who has the best numbers in CL right now?

Ok, first of all, 0-60 in 6.8 (actually its 6.9) is VERY fast < ...snip!... >
0-60 in 3.4 secs by a stock '64 Shelby Cobra, now THAT's quick
BTW - "fast" is a reference to "speed" (i.e., top end), whereas "acceleration" (i.e., 0-60 or 1/4 mile) is referred to as "quickness" - FWIW
