Default spare tire

i removed the spare tire for my 93 sc400.the tire was a goodyear eagle gs-d tire and looked new and the wheel looked to be never mounted, guessing it was the oem tire of the day.the funny thing is the spare tire is a directional tire and it was mounted for use for the right side only.what if your flat was on the left side?my question is ,was this the original tires that was on these cars when they were new?also there wasnt any air in it so i put 33psi and it good to go.

A previous owner probably replaced all 5 tires at once and never used the spare, thus it still looking new. I'd peg the odds of a factory spare having directional tread being roughly 0%. I doubt the four tires that came on the car were even directional.

It's always a good reminder to check air pressure in the spare occasionally, for sure.

Check the manufacture date. It might be ok as a spare, but it may not take sidewall stress well.

Ive got a white 93 SC400 as well. Same thing, spare never mounted and tire looks like new. Replaced it with a 2000 Solara wheel with 205-16 tire. Same height but weighs a lot less. Youl need the Solara lug nuts as well.

I'm using my spare as a main, whoever owned mine before must have been pretty loaded to put a michelin on the spare rim.

My never been used spare in my 96 is a michelin (still has the mold nubs) . Did we forget that these are high end cars and only rich people bought them when they were new?

Didn't think they were factory installed, maybe i've gotten used to spares being low usage so the manufacturers just skimp out on them and wrap some off brand trash on 'em. Should expect better than that from Lexus, obviously.
