Default Spare Tire Warning! My spare had 12psi, not the recommended 60psi.

- Had flat tire
- Replace flat with spare (also ordered new tires)
- Need to ride on spare for 2-3 days
- Checked air pressure in spare tire and it was only 12psi
- Recommended pressure in spare is 60psi!

Felt very nervous driving to a store with the under inflated spare to get a tire pressure pump (no service stations open on Sunday...). Was shocked to see how low the air pressure was on the spare. I will make sure to carry an inflator in the car at all times just in case. Hope this helps someone out who may be in a similar situation in the future.

Thanks for the warning. I had to throw my spare last week on too and luckily checked it before leaving the house... (was at 30psi)

I keep a 12v air inflator in the trunk for situations like this. I had two scenarios where I had a nail in one tire and a constant slow leak in another tire. The air inflator saved me many trips going to a gas station

This is the one I have

I usually just check the pressure in my spare once a year when I switch over my summers to my winters when i'm loading it back into the trunk (dont ride with it in the summer to reduce weight)....and I just fill it up when its low.

It can and does lose pressure so good advice from op to check it

Someone slashed my front tire a couple days ago and I had to ride on my spare. Being 20mi away from home at 1am wasnt a good feeling, Although I drove about 10miles before I decided to check the tire + gone to a gas station to pump. Spare had about 20psi, so much humming during braking and at freeway speeds.

I always check the pressure in the spare every other oil change (every 5-6 months). I always top it off at 65-70lbs and if I need it I would remove anything extra over 60lbs. Better more than less.

+1 on this. I used to work at a place that had Niitro fill. Nowadays, standard air works just as good.
