So I've done a bunch of searching on CL and located a few threads where people were successful getting their hoods to latch and lock properly after using some WD-40 but I've tried this without any success.

My hood pops just fine, but It doesn't seem to lock when I slam it shut. I noticed directly under the latch there was a cable that goes across which wasn't plugged in all the way but I'm not certain if this has anything to do with the hood not latching. So my question is, does the hood have any sensors or anything that need to be plugged in to latch and lock? I can't seem to figure out why my hood doesn't stay shut!!

Any help would be appreciated.

 

There are some bolts on the latch mechanism that you can loosen to reposition it. The latch is probably sitting too low to fully engage. I can't imagine what WD-40 would accomplish, other than de-greasing old lube on the latch.

 

t2d2 can you elaborate what you mean by loosen and re-positioning the latch? I noticed there were 2 or maybe 3 bolts on the latch itself but I'm not sure which part to adjust as you recommend.

 

2 or 3 bolts sounds right. Just loosen them and there will be a small amount of play to reposition the latch. The whole latch bracket assembly will move once loosened. Mine was too low and I had to drop the hood really hard for it to catch. Moving it up ever so slightly, it catches easily now.

 

Some sweet Tokyo Drift hood pins will do the trick.

 

first determine if the problem is the locking mechanism, they can get stucked ... get a flat screw driver , press that lever that is pushed down when you shut the hood and see if it locks ...if yes , then pull the lock to reopen ... you know it's not the locking mechanism ... can be repositioning with those 2 or 3 bolts ... you already know its not cable if you are able to open it when it is locked .

 

Thanks for the tip Gerrb. I hadn't read it until after I fixed it but this seemed like a no brainer. After adjusting the three bolts and pushing the mechanism up more it seems to catch a bit easier, still need to slam the hell outta it tho lol...
