Do you have a factory grill?

i've had this problem two things .... first you should check the hood latch if its need lube and second is check the cable.. my problem was the cable from the hood popper "interior" cable to the hood latch was seized up... well hope that helps..

Had the same issue still do at times. Stick your hand under the front bar of the car with the hood open. There are two cables under there one is fat and covered by a loom ( not that one) push it to the side as much as possible. There is a second thin hard cable under there pull it towards the passenger side of the car. give it a few tugs and you feel the shift in the cable. Then go back inside of youor car and push the hod latch in the close position. A few attempts and you'll get it to lock.

Hmmm. I think i'll go w/ G430 suggestion. Although it wouldn't hurt to remove the grill so you can see whats going on.

I had the same problem the other day. I took the latch out and sprayed w-d-40 on the peice where the cable conects and forced it back and forth until it moved with ease. that fixed it. i havent had a problem sence. i was glad it wasnt the cable.

I ran into this same issue this afternoon on my '01 GS430 after checking the oil and filling the washer fluid up...however, no time to work more on it today, but will try out the cable stuff when I get back from the holidays. (Not taking my car to the in-laws' house, so it'll be fine )

i'm having the same problem with my latch. I'd like to try taking the latch out and spraying it with wd40. Is there a trick to taking the latch out?

Happened to me once or twice, but I took the easy DIY approach and pushed the hood down harder with force and *click* it locked up

Update: I did the fix that Chris2 suggested and heard the click. The hood closed properly after that. Thanks!
