Looks like brand new, very nice. Unbelievable that the Lexus techs used regular orange RTV on there, even a B tech should know the vinegar content is bad for O2 sensors. This just reinforces my feeling that those guys are a bunch of incompetent monkeys. Good to see you diving into the automatic, gonna call you Captain Kirk 'cause you're going where no man has gone before

Make sure to post pics of the cooler+fan when it arrives...

Gadget,

Your tranny pan looks brand new. I wanted to know if your transmission was slipping at all and what type of tranny fluid did you use?

thanks
William

Jon Gazi....this is somthing we should all do. I should have done this a long time ago
tt...I had some slipping before my turbo died so this was a good time to take a look. The slipping started
after a few 1-2 shifts under near full boost. It was great turning the car sideways going into second but it didnt last long because , like everyone says, it doesnt take long befor your turning up the boost. So once I turned it up to 14psi.....the tranny didnt care for it at all . Anything above 10 -12psi, I had to back off on the gas for it to shift or it would slip. So once I can start it I will do a complete flush and change it once a month if I have to. I'm hoping this will get me into next spring. Wish me luck

Just try your hardest to keep the boost down! I blew up a couple trannies AND motors this way!

Running 25psi and a 120 shot, and having your trans not shift and just bounce off the rev limiter = bad news, and an expensive habit.

KEEP THE BOOST DOWN UNTIL YOU CAN MAKE YOUR TRANNY MAKE THE 1-2 SHIFT!!!

I'm probly missing a point, but Toyota has (at least) two RTV's, one for Engine and one for Tranny

Got my turbo back monday eve......everything looks great. A new center section and wheels. The only original is the housings . Put everything back together...triple checked the oil flow to the turbo and she started right up.
I took the time to flush the tranny fluid......was much easier that I thought it would be.
At the cooler(below the radiator) I disconnected one line and put 2 lengths of clear 1/2" tubing on each end. I started the car and just added new fluid as the old stuff pumped into a 5gal bucket. I added about 7 quarts before it came out clear/red. Reconnected the hoses and checked the level after removing from the ramps. That was it. I'll let you know how she runs later.

Gadgetsc,

After seeing your garage in the previous pic, mine looks like a toxic waste dump. I'd be too embarrassed to ever have you visit my work shop.

Get ready for one hell of an update.
I drove gadget's whip last nite, put it to the limits in every way....we call it the Luthor test. Evaluated ride quality, craftsmanship, handling, acceleration, top speed, braking, tractability, comfort, etc. The results?
A+

gadget has put together one helluva NA-T, attention to detail and workmanship are top-notch. Idle is like stock. off-boost driving is smooth and docile, there is no hesitation, lugging, or loading-up whatsoever, very much like stock until you are no longer in vacuum, then it's Mr. Hyde. Boost builds so very quickly, the '57 is a fantastic unit, we ran the car last nite @ 14lbs, and if you hit it from a 20+ mph roll, you literally see 14lbs just about as soon as the pedal touches the carpet. It feels like cubes, lots of them. I won't speculate on potential dyno and track #'s.....but after numerous runs well well into triple digits I can tell you it pulled just as hard as my GN did @ 16 lbs (maybe gadget can tell you how fast we were going, but I think we both looked away from the speedo after we passed 135 mph. Hitting full boost coming up a twisty service road was also fun, she hit 2nd and swung the @ss out and continued to squirrel and skitter up that narrow road. Wish we had a vid cam to capture that one. I promise you guys some sick sick NA-T footage in the future. Gonna show you some nice drifts and holeshots. The only thing left to do for now is to increase the transmission's line pressure, it builds steam so quickly it wants to go right past the shift point and onto the limiter. Yes, I managed to see some soft-touch action, and getting back on it required some attention as it had the potential to get violent with all the power being re-transmitted to the wheels all at once. A very fun fun car, and a buildup that's been professionally executed from day one. This car is the truth, ya heard!
