Pumpkin compatibility
I had a mechanic tell me the pumpkin I ordered (which I was told was for the 300/400) was a different length than the current OEM one in my 300. Is the companion flange a different length depending on 300/400 or auto/manual?

SC300/400 (and JZZ30/31 and UZZ31/32 Soarers), SC430, GS300/400, older GS430, and MKIV Supra Non-Turbo & TT Automatic ALL use the same 200mm rear differential pumpkin design. The Supras have finned casings but they are still the same thing. The Supra 6-speed diff (220mm) is different and of course the exception. Similarly LS400 pumpkins will not swap over.
Now the companion flanges ARE different between the SC300/400 and the GS and Supra pumpkins. And occasionally for SOME years there are very, very minor differences in the lengths of the axles... which should just apply to the Supra axles.
GISguy, there shouldn't be a companion flange difference if you have any kind of SC diff. And for any companion flange differences it isn't length that is the issue. It's the width of the three ears on the flange. If I recall correctly (it has been a while!) the SC/Soarer has a diameter of distance between the holes that is 101mm apart while the GS and Supra have a 111mm distance between the holes.
It's possible (but unproven) that the JDM 2001+ Soarer version had an LSD option early in the production run-- but not at all in the USA. Sorry.
The pumpkins should be interchangeable though.
Your US-model factory Torsen LSD options are limited to:
MKIV Supra TT Auto (3.769:1, Torsen & 97-98 models were Torsen *optional* which means that all TT Auto LSD diffs need a picture to prove they actually do have a Torsen)
MKIV Supra NA (4.272:1 early, 4.083 later, all years Torsen optional and VERY RARE)
...And then there are the many aftermarket clutch type LSDs, all requiring professional installation.
