Kbb
Has anyone noticed KBB kind of halved the values of the SC compared to a couple years ago?
Kind of make a fun email when newbie craigslist buyers want to pay $2k for an "excellent" condition one

Indeed they have. What was $3.5k-$4k a couple of years ago is now valued at about $2.5k-$3k.
Seems they've done the same to MKIV Supra Turbos as well but to a much, much smaller degree. But they've always been out of touch with MKIV values.
$2k buys some of the oldest SC's in stock & fair condition. It doesn't come close to buying well kept late models or examples that have had extensive driveline upgrades and which are also in good or restored condition. Insurance valuation is where this presents the biggest issue.

Carmax was going to offer me 300 bucks for mine the other day. BUT, when they saw all the maintenance that has been done as well as upgrades, they bumped it up to 1.2k. Thats a 1997 SC300 5spd with WELL BELOW average miles for a vehicle of that date and year.

Not to be rude but who brings a car to carmax not knowing they rip people off, I remember bringing in a brand new car to just to see what they would say and it was almost half the value and when they sell then it's a 50% markup.

I was glad it cleared 1k. I went in expecting 500. Also...for shopping for a used/like new vehicle...they offer the best buying experience. EVERY car is unlocked. A 2013 Range Rover Supercharged actually had the keys in it, and I started it, warmed it up, revved it(very little), and shut it down. Then I let the employee helping me know that they had left the keys to the Rover in there. He was not surprised at all. I'm in San Antonio, TX...before anyone asks.
Glad to hear you weren't serious
I like car browsing on occasion too. The only good thing about Carmax seems to be the actual buying or selling experience. Not so much the numbers they'll give you for a trade-in or for what's on their lot. For a first gen SC or really any car like it it's going to be a terrible offer on their end.
I'd imagine it's a rare thing that any classic car owner would try to sell their car to them. They just aren't interested in anything rare or old.
Give them an Supra MKIV or a 1987 Grand National and I'm sure you'd still get a laughable value that only reflected a fraction of what either are actually worth in the real world.
But their warranties are supposed to be fantastic, even for Land Rovers.

I've already noticed quite a few of these old girls in junkyards around the country during my online purusing that appear to have ended up there just because value is low & cost of parts/repair is more than it's worth, to pay to fix it. I'm going to continue on mine no matter what it's worth just because I like the car. I bought up a bunch of AMC Javelins for 50$ a Piece years ago because I liked them, now 40yrs later I sell little chrome pcs off them for 50$ a pc. Same thing is going on with these cars & it may take a long time before interest & the majority of the car public take notice of them again. Keep your car because you like it, not for resale! I know where there is a real clean 93 SC 300, black, out of NC. Dealer wanted 6k for it this spring & told me it booked for 10k . I told him it would'nt sell up here & might take awhile. It's now sitting on the budget lot for 3k & may end up going for auction. I would buy it but I have one SC already that I'm putting more into than It's worth.
^^ As long as the car appeals to people for some reason or another we might see the same thing happen.
AMC Javelins... I love those! And AMX's. Even in the early 2000's those were beginning to get expensive. Do you still have even one for yourself today?

Yes. 68 SST, AMX Equipped, 70 Mark Donahue, & a 69 plain jane. All 3 are currently in storage at the moment, but will be brought back online as I get the time. Had a blast with them when I was younger. & of course various part cars.
^^ Yes.
