Replacing my SC as a daily, What do you Drive?
#65
I got my SC300 when I was in high school and I daily drove for probably close to 10 years in Northeast OhIo and southern Ohio. I agree the thing is a death trap in the snow especially if you get caught on the highway during a big storm. I bought a Audi S4 as the potential replacement for my SC300 but after working on it so much, it became my fun car and I ended up driving the SC300 daily until I got my Audi A4. The S4 is way to unreliable to drive daily. My A4 probably needs alittle more attention than the SC300 in terms of servicing it but the headaches from working on it vs the constantly worrying about the weather in my SC300 is a trade off I'm willing to make.
The SC300 was finally retired from daily driving when the rear subframe rusted out. I replaced it and I have bunch of parts waiting to go on, it will turn into my other fun car for the summers.
I would get something AWD with electronic stability control. The ESP in my A4 with Quattro and snow tires makes it like it's driving on rails. During snow storms, I will take unplowed side streets if the the main streets are moving too slow and will get places alot quicker even with the detour.
Not all AWD is equal. Do your research. I like Quattro but the GX470 and 6-speed FJ Cruiser has similar systems.

This is my daily driver (our former family car) Early build 2001 GS300 with 317k ODO and counting... gets driven close to 450 to 500km/week.
I've been tempted to trade in for a newer car or a mid-sized truck but this car has been so damn good.

My last sc400 was my fun car and I drove a gs400 as my daily. Gs400 is all around amazing vehicle. Has good power, handles decent, mileage isn't terrible and can find pretty cheap these days. Rolling another sc400 as my daily now. My turbo rx8 is my fun car these days. Lol gs400 and sc400 best cars I've ever owned. Owned hondas, mitsubishi's,Toyota, BMW, chevys, fords and Mazda. Nothing compares.

I enjoy driving my 99 SC400 by I want to keep her as pristine as possible so she spends quite a bit of time in the garage. I have an 01GS300 as my daily. I recently picked up an 01 GS430 which will be added as a second daily. Plans might change for it though.
I stick with the Lexus brand for their reliability.
