I had an old 1999 Saturn SL2 as a daily driver. The car sucked, but it was cheap on gas and got really high gas mileage when the AC wasn't working. They're very cheap cars too. It was my daily driver for six years.
I currently drive my 2005 Lexus LS430 as a daily and it's very fun with the mods I have on it. I sometimes drive my sister's base model 2002 LS430 and it's the smoothest riding car I've ever been in. It's completely stock with 244,100 miles, but it runs very smooth and is reliable. A cheap older LS430 or 95-00 LS400 are good cars.

If you're wanting something family oriented, good on fuel, and good in the snow look into the 4th and 5th generation Nissan Maxima. With the 5/6-speed they gave Mustang GT's of the time a run for their money and you can get them for not much money at all. My brother had almost 500K miles between his '95 and '98 Maxima, the only real issues with either was the notorious water pump that'd start to make noise at 200K+ miles.

i have an LX450 and only 1 cupholder that works properly near the seat.
(why do the SUV's have such crappy cupholders ill never know)
the other two i wouldnt trust at all inless your parked OR
have the worlds smallest/lightest cup ever or it will break
(mine broke) its also hovers right above the radio! (condensation leaks into the radio) still kicks tho
its a very reliable car, its a TANK. has 210K on her & still running strong.
only issue with this car is that i sacrifice reliability & very low maintenance for very poor MPG (12-18 mpg)

Drive my SC as a dd for 4 yrs now appx 120 mls a day ,winter also but retiring her from winter as I want to keep it for a long time & getting to much invested in it, besides it's an iron ice skate on ice. Making a deal on a 02 explorer sport 4x4 that is very clean & has under 100k on it to handle the north pole winters we have here. Maybe get an Elio someday if they ever build them! 84mpg sure would be easy on the wallet.
