My 93 SC400 has the infamous problem with the trunk not staying open, because the trunk struts are worn out. I called the dealer, and they want $130 each! Carson Toyota has them for $90 a piece, but that's still way too expensive for what you get.
Autozone has aftermarket trunk struts for $26 a piece. That seems fair to me, but I'm wondering if anybody has ever used aftermarket one's before, and if they bolted right on? Is there anywhere else I can get these for a reasonable price?
FYI, if you had simply searched w/ the two word you used for your topic, u'd have found a WEALTH of information - perhaps TOO much threads because all those ppl didnt search b4 they post either..
I just installed a new set last week. They are the Strong Arm 4508 sold by www.partsamerica.com and just to clarify, they do open the trunk automatically!! I haven’t yet installed a spoiler but they should still open it with no problems. Total was $64 with shipping.
i surprized that you guys were able to find the trunk struts on partsamerica, rockauto or autozone. I been trying for like a month and all of them always tell me that they dont have it in stock or they dont carry that model. i guess I have 2 check it again 2day.
man i couldn't get one of the lifts off so i had to whip out the handy tool #321910-B (portable circular grinder) and cut the piece that holds the ball joint in 1/2 so i could pry it out.
Hi! Replaced my trunk struts this weekend...took me just under an hour. Simple to do. Even for a girl! LOL! Got mine at Rockauto... part number SG429002 for $17.30 each. Watch the shipping though. I thought I specified ground and they shipped 2-day which ran appx. $21!!!! There went my savings, but I got the chore done this weekend. Someone on this site posted excellent step-by-step instructions. Don't have them with me now, but you could search it out.
